INSTRUCTIONS

1cm seam allowance is included.

From each of the two fabric designs cut

2 x 150cm main fabric (outer)

2 x 150cm inner fabric

Step 1 - With right sides together pin, then sew two pieces of main fabric together down selvedge edges, matching pattern.

Step 2 - Repeat this with inner fabric.

Step 3 - Fold each of these pieces in half then in half again to form a square.

Step 4 - With the tape measure on the centre corner, measure 75cm along the edge of the fabric and mark with fabric pencil.

Step 5 - Continue moving the tape measure in an arc around the fabric marking at 75cm, making sure that the end of the tape measure is at the centre fold. Draw a curved line along the 75cm marks.

Alternately you could tie the string to a marker and pin the end of the string to the corner of the folded fabric. The pen should be 75cm away from the corner. Draw an arc from one edge to the other.

Step 6 - Cut through all four layers of fabric along the curved line and unfold the circle.

Step 7- Repeat this with inner fabric.

Cord Casing

Step 8 - From the offcut fabric cut 8cm strips. Join on the bias to make one long strip to fit around the edge of the circle. Cut this in half to approx. 2.5 metre lengths. Double hem short ends, fold and press under 1cm then another 1cm and topstitch hem in place. Fold strip in half lengthways, wrong sides together and press.

Step 9 - Pin folded strip around the outside edge of the outer fabric circle with raw edges aligned. Sew to edge of circle.

Step 10 - Pin the two circles together with right sides facing. Sew together using a 1cm seam allowance, leaving a 15cm opening for turning through.

Step 11 - Turn right side out through the opening and press in seam allowance of opening. Hand sew opening closed. Press well and topstitch round close to the edge of the outer fabric circle.

Step 12 - Attach one end of cord to a safety pin and thread through the casing. With the mat flat, not gathered at the edge, knot ends of cord together and cut off excess cord.
