Warlukurlangu Aboriginal Art Centre Artists

Warlukurlangu Aboriginal Art Centre Artists

Warlukurlangu is one of the longest-running and most successful Aboriginal-owned art centres in Central Australia. Warlukurlangu celebrates and supports Aboriginal art and Indigenous culture, producing gloriously colourful prints. Warlukurlangu means 'belonging to fire' in the local language, Warlpiri, and is named after a fire dreaming site west of Yuendumu. Ruth Nungarrayi is one of the artists and has been painting with the Warlukurlangu artists since she was a teenager, and was taught Yanjirlpirri Jukurpa (Star Dreaming painting) by another of the Warlukurlangu artists, Daisy Napanangka Nelson (1930 - 2001). She was also told stories of her Jukurrpa (Dreaming) by her grandparents, and all of these positive influences help Ruth create enchanting, colourful artwork with extraordinary detail.
