WHAT ARE THE POPULAR TYPES OF BLINDS?
Each Spotlight showroom will display the range of blinds and curtains available, from blockout roller blinds to light filtering sheer curtains, but it pays to do your research beforehand. To help, we have created an easy-to-understand overview of the different window coverings available in-store and online.
WHAT ARE VERTICAL BLINDS?
Vertical blinds are a popular choice for most kinds of windows and doors. They feature vertical slats instead of horizontal, and are usually used inside, including around the patio area. They look more formal than horizontal blinds, which also makes them suitable for the office or formal lounge areas. They are easy to operate, have a focus on child safety and offer fantastic light control.
WHAT ARE VENETIAN BLINDS?
Venetian blinds are the most popular blinds on the market today and it's easy to see why. Horizontal slats are attached to one another with either cloth or string and they can easily be adjusted to cover all or part of your window. Venetian blinds allow natural light to come in and still provide privacy even when they are open, with the slats pushing onto the one above. It is for that reason that Venetian blinds are popular in the front rooms of Australian family homes.
WHAT ARE MINI BLINDS?
While mini blinds have developed their own name over the years, they are really just smaller Venetian blinds. They offer the same privacy as Venetian blinds, and work exactly the same way. The main difference is the width of the slats. And they also come in smaller sizes, which makes them a perfect option for smaller windows in places like bathrooms or toilets. Given those windows are often custom sizes, choosing a custom made mini blind may be the better option for your home. A modern mini-blind trend has been to use them in a purely decoratively way, by covering no more than three quarters of a window. While they look great, they obviously won't offer the privacy of a full window covering.
WHAT ARE MICRO BLINDS?
Just when you thought things couldn't get any smaller than mini blinds, along came micro blinds. Micro blinds are, as they sound, the smallest blind option available for sale today. The term 'micro' doesn't relate to their width or size, but to the thickness of their slats.
Micro blinds are perfect for any inside window and come in a large range of colours and finishes. Those who love a little more detail in their home, including traditional and rustic finishes, will love what micro blinds can offer.
WHAT ARE PANEL BLINDS?
For some people, blinds are an option they have to think twice about. While modern blinds can be cordless and help you with energy saving around the home, cleaning them each week can be an extra chore. For those people, panel blinds can be the answer. Panel blinds, orpanel glide blinds, are larger and can be sturdier than traditional Venetian or vertical blinds. They are installed vertically and can move up and down a track or rail. Panel blinds can be a suitable option for larger windows and go really well alongside patio doors.
WHAT ARE PLEATED BLINDS?
If you prefer a little decorative accent on your blinds or curtains then pleated blinds can be perfect for your home. Pleated blinds have an accordion-like pattern that can easily move up or down, and are made of flexible materials such as fabric or paper. As a result, they can be a little more difficult to clean, but if you are prepared to put in the effort you will be rewarded. They look great and can offer something a little different to your favourite room.
WHAT ARE ROMAN BLINDS?
Roman blinds, or Roman shades, are an attractive addition to any room of your house. They are usually made out of fabric and are solid, allowing you to manage your light without having to have them fully open or shut. By pulling up or letting down a string, they fold onto or off themselves, looking good no matter how far up the window they are open. As mentioned above, they can provide morelight control, and as they are fabric they give you both sheer and blackout options. That means you can totally blockout a whole window, or just part of one, or let in the winter light when the days become shorter. Being fabric means there are usually a lot of different colours to choose from, making them suitable for almost every room in the house. And Roman blinds can be easily combined with otherwindow furnishings or window coverings, such as curtains, to make a style statement in any home. You may even be able to match the fabric for that magic touch.
No matter what kind of blinds you prefer, Spotlight can help you find the perfect option for your home at an affordable price. Scroll through the blinds online today, contact us online to ask any questions or visit our stores to see them up close for yourself.
