Can I purchase haberdashery at Spotlight?
Yes, you can. This huge range covers all your sewing and crafting essentials from simple everyday items like thread, needles and scissors to more specialist items like a tie-dye kit and even a complete storage station to keep all your most important items close at hand.
Why are these items called haberdashery?
Haberdashery is a collective name for all sorts of small sewing items such as buttons, needles, ribbons, zips etc. It was recorded back as far as the 14th Century, where it made an appearance in Chaucer's Canterbury Tales. A "Haberdasher" was a peddler, or a person who sold small items such as needles and buttons. These days, the haberdashery section includes all sorts of things that you may need in the course of sewing or crafting items, including glues, fasteners, garment cleaning products and much more.
What types of haberdashery are for sale at Spotlight?
The range of haberdashery items at Spotlight is huge, including more than 1000 items. For your convenience, we have broken up the collection in a number of categories, which will make it easier for you to find your particular item. You can also search by name, price, brand and several other filters. Here you will find ribbon, Velcro, left and right-handed scissors, bobbins, thread, pins, fastenings and many more items.
What else is included in the range?
Haberdashery is generally made up of small items, so to make sure that you can find all your items easily in one place, we have also included a number of storage items for all your haberdashery items, including a storage cabinet on wheels, several trolleys, and a number of boxes, bags and other storage items to keep your items organised and close at hand.
Why are there so many different scissors?
Scissors are available in a number of sizes, as well as for left-handed and right-handed people. In addition, there are many specialist types of scissors such as pinking shears (which leave a zig-zag edge, known to reduce fraying in fabrics such as cotton), embroidery scissors (with small sharp points to get into tiny areas) and a whole number of different scissors for materials such as leather, cardboard and more. To keep your scissors sharp, always try not to mix the materials you use them for. If you have a pair of favourite dressmaking shears, make sure the kids don't use them to do their homework with, as you will find they will quickly lose their sharpness.
