Make sure you are working on high-quality drawing paper designed for use with coloured pencils if you wish to blend colours. If you are only using pencils, blend colours by laying down light layers and slightly overlapping them where you need the colour change to occur. If you have them, make use of a colourless blending pencil or paper tortillon to smooth the blending process.

How to draw in coloured pencil

To start drawing with coloured pencils, ensure the colour you wish to use is sharp and the tip is clean. The harder you press the tip to the paper, the bolder and thicker your line will be. You can also angle the pencil to the side and use the side of the lead to colour in larger areas at once.

How to rub out coloured pencil

Shape a kneadable eraser into a pointed shape to allow you to remove the mistake you need without lifting the colours you want to keep. As you erase be sure to either switch which part of the eraser you are using to rub the eraser clean on some paper towel or scrap paper, so the lifted colour doesn't get smudged back onto the paper.
