Cushion Front

Step 1 - Arrange strips in order from A to M.

Step 2 - Sew strips together in order from A to M by sewing together in pairs then sew pairs together, etc.

Step 3 - Press seams in one direction.

Step 4 - Layer the quilters muslin square, with batting square and pieced cushion top together. Using large hand stitches and the thread used for piecing to baste together from top to bottom.

Optional - Use Prima wax marker to mark lines for stitching along the centre of each strip B to L and 1/2" from seam line on strips A and M.

Step 5 - Place layered cushion top in a quilting hoop if using one.

Note - a quilters hoop stabilizes the layers to help control shifting and allows for more control when stitching as your hands are free to stitch rather than holding onto the layers. As this is a small project you can probably manage without a hoop it just may take a little longer.

Step 6 - Cut a length of perle 8 thread 22" long, thread onto your needle and knot one end. A running stitch is used for hand quilting. Starting at one end of the centre strip fabric G (Apple) insert your needle vertically from top side to the underneath and pull your needle and thread all the way through the quilt sandwich. The knot can sit on top as it will be cut off later. Push the needle back up to the top and continue to pull your needle all the way through the quilt sandwich with every stitch keeping stitches as even in length as possible. At the end tie off with a knot.

Step 7 - Repeat Step 6 on each of the remaining strips. Press to remove frixion pen marks.

Step 8 - Trim quilted cushion front to a 161/4" square.

Step 9 - For the top back section of the cover take fabric A rectangle, fold and press under to sew a double hem along one long side. Press well.

Step 10 - For the bottom back section of the cover take fabric M rectangle, fold and press under to sew a double hem along one long side. Press well.

Step 11 - With quilted cushion front right side up, place hemmed top back section (step 9) face down on top, aligning top and side raw edges with hemmed edge towards the centre. Pin in place. Place the hemmed bottom back section (step 10) face down on top aligning bottom and side edges with hemmed edge overlapping the top section in the centre. Pin in place.

Step 12 - Sew together around all four sides. Clip corners and overlock or zigzag seams to neaten. Turn cover right side out and press. Place insert into cover with back edges overlapping.
