Notes:

• To begin working with the O'Go format, carefully cut plastic tie where the ends of the O'Go meet. Pull tie to remove. For this pattern, colors can be easily separated by gently pulling apart and cutting at the color transition. Each color is ready to use.

Stripe Pat

With D, work 4 rnds.

With A, work 2 rnds.

With C, work 4 rnds.

With A, work 2 rnds.

These 12 rnds form Stripe Pat.

Ribbing: With E, ch 11.

1st row: 1 dc in 2nd ch from hook. 1 dc in each ch to end of chain. Turn. 10 dc.

2nd row: Ch 1. Working in back loops only, 1 dc in each st to end of row. Turn.

Rep last row until work from beg measures 53.5cm when slightly stretched. Do not fasten off. Join last row and first row tog with 1 row of dc. Break E.

Change to larger hook and proceed as follows:

1st rnd: Join D with sl st to side edge at join. Ch 1. Working alongside edge, work 64 dc evenly around. Join with sl st to first dc.

2nd rnd: Ch 1. 1 dc in first dc. *Ch 1. Skip next dc. 1 dc in next dc. Rep from * around, ending with 'Ch 1. Skip next dc.' Join with sl st to first dc.

3rd rnd: Sl st in last ch-1 sp just worked at end of last rnd. Ch 1. 1 dc in same sp as sl st. *Ch 1. Skip next dc. 1 dc in next dc. Rep from * around, ending with 'Ch 1. Skip next dc.' Join with sl st to first dc.

First 3 rnds of Stripe Pat are complete.

Keeping cont of Stripe Pat, rep last rnd until 12 rnds of Stripe Pat are complete. Break A. Join B at end of last rnd.

Shape Crown: 1st rnd: With B, sl st in last ch-1 sp just worked at end of last rnd. Ch 1. 1 dc in same sp as sl st. (Ch 1. Skip next dc. 1 dc in next dc) twice. Ch 1. Skip next [Dc. Ch-1 sp. Dc]. 1 dc in next ch-1 sp. *(Ch 1. Skip next dc. 1 dc in next dc) 3 times. Ch 1. Skip next [Dc. Ch-1 sp. Dc]. 1 dc in next ch-1 sp. Rep from * around, ending with 'Skip next: dc, ch-1 sp and dc. Join with sl st to first dc. 48 sts.

2nd rnd: Sl st in last ch-1 sp just worked at end of last rnd. Ch 1. 1 dc in same sp as sl st. *Ch 1. Skip next dc. 1 dc in next dc. Rep from * around, ending with 'Ch 1. Skip next dc.' Join with sl st to first dc.

3rd rnd: Sl st in last ch-1 sp just worked at end of last rnd. Ch 1. 1 dc in same sp as sl st. Ch 1. Skip next dc. 1 dc in next dc. *Ch 1. Skip next [Dc. Ch-1. Dc]. 1 dc in next dc. Ch 1. 4th rnd: As 2nd rnd. Fasten off, leaving a long end.

Thread end through rem sts and pull up tightly. Fasten securely.

Pompom: Wind 2 strands of B and C, 1 strand each of D and E around 4 fingers 40 times. Tie tightly in the middle and leave a long end for attaching to Hat. Cut loops at both ends and trim to smooth round shape. Sew securely to top of Hat.
