Tab Top Curtains

Update Your Room With Tab Top Curtains in Sheer and Blockout Styles

Transform a plain room into a cosy retreat with Spotlight's tab top curtains. You can shop tab top curtains in a range of colours, sizes and materials to suit your style and home. Because they are not gathered in pleats, tab top curtains don't have to be quite as wide as some other curtains, such as pencil pleats or pinch pleat curtains, helping you to save money on larger curtains. For wider windows, just use two or more panels to cover the width you need. At Spotlight, you can shop from a variety of functions, such as sheer curtains and blockout curtains, as well as a range of concealed tab top and kids tab top curtains, helping you find a tab top curtain for every room in your home. First Things First, What Are Tab Top Curtains?

Although their name is often misunderstood, tab top curtains are one of the most commonly used types of curtains in the Australian home. Their name comes from the "tabs" that are the exposed loops of fabric that you can see on the curtains. These tabs are looped around a curtain pole or rod. The tabs can be made of the same material as the curtains, or even from contrasting colours, or embellished with decorative buttons, to match the curtain pole or the rest of your interior. Also known as tab curtains, these window dressings are versatile, stylish and are well worth considering if you are looking for new curtains.

Why Aussie Homes Are Choosing Tab Top Curtains

Tab top curtains are a popular choice of window dressing in Australian homes for a number of reasons. For one, they are incredibly easy to install - simply thread a curtain rod through the tabs for a quick and easy installation process. This simplicity in installation also translates to ease in taking down the curtains by pulling the curtain rod out of the tab tops. With no extra hardware required, these curtains are a great option for beginner home stylists looking for an instant update to their window furnishings. In addition to their ease of installation, tab top curtains offer a casual drape that suits a range of calming decorative styles, including coastal, country and relaxed contemporary.

Sheer, Blockout or Somewhere in Between?

Shop from a range of different tab top curtains to find the best curtain fabric match for your light control and privacy preferences. Our range of sheer tab top curtains showcases a soft, airy aesthetic while offering a light filtering functionality that allows natural light to filter through the fabric for a peaceful tranquillity. For those wanting more privacy and to create a dark space, room darkening tab top curtains are a great choice. These curtains help to keep any room nice and dark while allowing minimal light to pass through. On the other hand, if you're wanting to completely block out any sunlight, then we recommend our range of blockout tab top curtains. For the best of both worlds, you can also layer sheer curtains with blockout curtains.

Tab Top or Concealed Tab Top?

The visible tabs of tab top curtains offer a more casual, laid-back look. If instead you're after a tidier, streamlined finish, our range of concealed tab top curtains may be what you're looking for. Concealed tab top curtains have these tabs sewn onto the back of the curtain header. This means that once the curtain rod is in place, the tabs are not visible from the front, creating a clean look that suits modern and minimalist spaces. Both of these styles thread onto a curtain rod the same way - the difference is purely visual.

How to Measure for the Perfect Fit

Accurate measurements are integral in ensuring your tab top curtains fit your windows perfectly. To measure for your tab top curtains:

1. Measure the width of your curtain rod
2. Measure from the top of the rod to where you want your curtains to finish, such as the sill or the floor
3. Decide whether you want one curtain panel or a pair for your window
4. For wide windows, use multiple panels and allow extra fabric for fullness and gathers.

Hanging Your Tab Top Curtains Is a Breeze

Hanging tab top curtains is a simple way to refresh your windows:

1. Make sure you have a curtain rod, suitable brackets, a drill and basic fixings
2. Position and secure the curtain brackets at the recommended height, making sure they are level
3. Slide the curtain rod through each of the tab loops, spacing the tabs evenly
4. Adjust the fabric along the rod until the folds and gathers look even
5. Place the rod securely into the brackets and make any final adjustments for a neat, balanced finish.
