What is an Eyelet Curtain?

Eyelet curtains are a popular style choice in many homes, and at Spotlight, you can discover a huge variety of colours, textures and patterns to suit any decorating theme. As the name suggests, this style of curtain features metal "eyelets" or grommets at the top of the curtain. These covered rings are embedded into the curtain fabric and are used to hang the curtain by threading them onto a curtain pole. Eyelet curtains are easy to install and add a sleek, contemporary finish to your home interior. They are also a child-safe window covering option for those with young families, as no cords and chains are needed for installation or operation.

Find the Right Eyelet Curtain Fabric and Function for Every Room

Spotlight's eyelet curtain range extends to include a variety of fabrics offering specific functions. With so many eyelet curtains to choose from, there's sure to be an eyelet curtain option to suit your needs for any room. Such fabrics and functions include:

• Blockout eyelet curtains - Prevent light from entering your space with a blockout coating. Ideal for making bedrooms nice and cosy.
• Sheer eyelet curtains - Allow light to filter through the fabric, brightening your space with natural sunlight while offering a subtle layer of privacy. Great for transforming living rooms into calming sanctuaries.
• Room darkening eyelet curtains - Reduce the amount of light entering through fabric while offering insulation properties, perfect for year round coverage. Elevate the window furnishings of both living rooms and bedrooms.
• Linen look eyelet curtains - Provide great light, airflow and comfort thanks to its natural feel and breathable weave. With an airy aesthetic, these curtains elevate the ambience of bedrooms, living rooms and home offices.

Pick an Eyelet Curtain Colour or Pattern That Matches Your Style

No matter your home decor style, you'll be sure to find the perfect pair of eyelet curtains that complements your chosen decorative theme. Choose colours, prints or textures that work with your space. Match your curtains to the light neutral tones of your walls, or create a contrast by installing a dark pair of curtains against a lighter toned wall that adds a sense of depth to any room. Alternatively, if you're looking for a statement piece or you're wanting to coordinate your curtains with a maximalist style of decorating, our patterned eyelet curtains combine function and aesthetic charm to provide you with artistic curtains that are easy to display in your bedroom or living room.

What is the Best Way to Measure for Eyelet Curtains?

The first step in ensuring you have the correct size of eyelet curtains is to accurately measure your window or existing curtain rod. Check out our guide on how to measure your windows for some handy tips and tricks. Once you have the window measurements, compare them to the available sizes for your chosen curtain style. Spotlight's ready-made curtains will list the width of the window they will fit first, followed by the drop. For example, a curtain size of 140 - 220 x 223 cm means the pair of curtains will fit a window between 140 cm and 220 cm across, with a height of 223 cm.

Hot tip: If your window width is close to the larger end of the width range, opt for the next curtain size up to ensure a beautifully gathered curtain and adequate coverage for your window.

How to Keep Eyelet Curtains Looking Fresh Every Time

Eyelet curtains are a low-maintenance window dressing that elevates the styling of your windows for years to come, however, you should take some care in maintaining their appearance. For the best possible results in keeping your curtains looking neat and clean, make sure to follow any provided cleaning instructions. Some eyelet curtains may only be able to be spot cleaned, while others are able to be handwashed. In this case, the washing routine typically involves laundering your eyelet curtains by hand with a mild detergent. Placing them in the washing machine can risk damaging or loosening the metal eyelets. Line dry the curtains in the shade. If washing blockout or thermal coated curtains, make sure to dry the curtains with the lining side facing outwards, as the acrylic coating can stick to itself when damp or whilst drying.

To keep the curtains hanging well, a light dusting a few times a week will prevent the build-up of dust that can prevent your curtains from sliding efficiently on your curtain rods or tracks.
