How should I prepare my paper?
It is important that you choose the right paper for watercolours, it should be good quality, acid-free and long-lasting. We recommend purchasing paper that has been designed specifically for this purpose. Most watercolour paper needs to be prepared properly before you begin, and for sharp, crisp colours it is recommended that you paint onto wet paper. When you are handling your paper, remember that wet paper can absorb the oil from your fingers. It is important that your hands are clean, or you could wear gloves for extra protection. Brush cold water on to your paper with a clean paintbrush until it is completely saturated. Then leave to dry on a board or hard surface for around 15 minutes. Tape the paper onto the board, and start to paint while it is still damp. If it remains to be too wet, you can also press paper towels down onto it to soak up any excess.
