INSTRUCTIONS

LEGS (make 2)

Using 3mm needles and C1, cast on 13 sts.

1st row (WS) - Knit.

2nd row - (K1, inc in next st, K3, inc in next st) twice, K1 ... 17 sts.

3rd row - Knit.

4th row - (K1, inc in next st, K5, inc in next st) twice, K1 ... 21 sts.

5th row - Knit.

6th row - (K1, inc in next st, K7, inc in next st) twice, K1 ... 25 sts.

7th row - Knit.

8th row - (K1, inc in next st, K9, inc in next st) twice, K1 ... 29 sts.

Knit 5 rows garter st.

14th row - K10, (K3tog) 3 times, K10 ... 23 sts.

15th row - K10, P3tog, K10 ... 21 sts.

16th row - K9, K3tog, K9 ... 19 sts.

17th row - K9, P1, K9.

Knit 6 rows garter st.

Beg Stripe Patt -

Working in stocking st in stripes of 2 rows C2 and 2 rows C3 for rem, cont until work measures approx 25cm from beg and ending with a complete C2 stripe.

Shape Top -

Keeping stripe patt correct, dec one st at each end of next row, then in every foll alt row until 3 sts rem.

Next row (WS) - Purl.

Next row - Sl 1, K2tog, psso ... 1 st.

Fasten off.

Using mattress st and matching stripes, join foot and leg seams to beg of shaping. Stuff with hobby fill.

TORSO (make 2 pieces)

Using 3mm needles and C3, cast on 9 sts.

Shape Crotch and Leg Openings -

1st row (RS) - Inc in first st, knit to last st, K1 ... 11 sts.

2nd row - Purl.

Working in stripe patt for rem, beg with a C2 stripe, inc one st at each end of next row, then in every foll alt row until there are 25 sts.

Next row - P4, inc purlways in next st, rep from to last 5 sts, P5 ... 29 sts.

Cont in stripe patt until work measures approx 12cm from beg of crotch, ending with a C3 stripe.

Shape Armholes -

Keeping stripe patt correct, dec one st at each end of next row, then in every foll alt row until 17 sts rem.

Work 1 row.

Leave rem 17 sts on a stitch-holder for Head.

ARMS (make 2)

Using 3mm needles and C1, cast on 9 sts.

1st row (WS) - Knit.

2nd row (RS) - Inc in first st, K2, inc in next st, K1, inc in next st, K2, inc in last st ... 13 sts.

3rd row - Knit.

4th row - Inc in first st, K4, inc in next st, K1, inc in next st, K4, inc in last st ... 17 sts.

Knit 13 rows garter st.

Beg Stripe Patt -

Work in stripe patt as for Legs until work measures 20cm from beg, ending with a C3 stripe.

Shape Top -

Keeping stripe patt correct, dec one st at each end of next row, then in every foll alt row until 5 sts rem.

Next row (WS) - P2tog, P1, P2tog ... 3 sts.

Leave 3 sts on a stitch-holder for Head.

HEAD

Using mattress st, join arms to body matching stripes, leaving left back arm seam open.

With RS facing using 3mm needles and C6, knit across 3 sts from left arm stitch-holder, knit across 17 sts from front torso stitch-holder, knit up 3 sts from right arm stitch-holder, then knit across 17 sts from back torso stitch-holder ... 40 sts.

1st row (WS) - Purl.

2nd row - K1, inc in next st, K2, rep from to end ... 53 sts.

3rd row - Purl.

4th row - K1, inc in next st, K3, rep from to end ... 66 sts.

5th row - Purl.

6th row - K1, inc in next st, K4, rep from to end ... 79 sts.

Cont in stocking st, beg with a purl row, until head measures 10cm from end of inc, ending with a purl row.

Using mattress st, join crotch seam. Using mattress st, sew Legs in position matching stripes and shaping. Join side seams of Torso to beg of armhole shaping. Join hand and arm seams matching stripes and sew to Torso matching stripes and shaping. Fill Torso and Arms with hobby fill.

Shape Crown -

1st row (RS) - K1, K2tog, K4, rep from to end ... 66 sts.

2nd and every foll alt row - Purl.

3rd row - K1, K2tog, K3 ... rep from to end ... 53 sts.

5th row - K1, K2tog, K2, rep from to end ... 40 sts.

7th row - K1, K2tog, K1, rep from to end ... 27 sts.

9th row - K1, K2tog, rep from to end ... 14 sts.

10th row - Purl.

Break off yarn leaving a long end.

Thread yarn through rem sts, draw up tightly and fasten off securely.

Using long end left at top of head and mattress st, join head seam, filling with hobby fill as you go and moulding to shape.

SHORTS (beg at waist)

Using 3mm needles and C4, cast on 58 sts.

Knit in garter st (1st row is WS), until work measures 6cm from beg, working last row on WS.

Shape Legs and Crotch -

Cast off 3 sts at beg of next 2 rows ... 52 sts.

Next row (RS) - K23, cast off 6 sts, K23.

Cont in garter st on last 23 sts for first leg, until work measures 6cm from cast off, working last row on WS.

Cast off.

With WS facing, join yarn to rem sts and knit to end.

Cont in garter st on these 23 sts for second leg, until work measures 6cm from cast off, working last row on WS.

Cast off.

Using a flat seam, join side edges tog from cast on edge to crotch to form centre back seam. Join inner leg and crotch seams.

SCARF

Using 3mm needles and C5, cast on 11 sts.

Work in garter st (1st row is WS), until work measures 30cm from beg, working last row on WS.

Cast off.

HAT

Using 3mm needles and C4, cast on 79 sts.

Knit 8 rows stocking st. Allow these rows to roll to purl side of fabric for brim.

Using C5 for rem, cont in st until work measures 5cm from end of brim, ending with a purl row.

Shape Peak -

1st row (RS) - K1, K2tog, K4, rep from to end ... 66 sts.

Work 5 rows stocking st, beg with a purl row.

7th row - K1, K2tog, K3, rep from to end ... 53 sts.

Work 5 rows stocking st, beg with a purl row.

13th row - K1, K2tog, K2, rep from to end ... 40 sts.

Work 5 rows stocking st, beg with a purl row.

19th row - K1, K2tog, K1, rep from to end ... 27 sts.

Work 5 rows stocking st, beg with a purl row.

25th row - K1, K2tog, rep from to end ... 14 sts.

Work 3 rows stocking st, beg with a purl row.

29th row - K2tog, rep from to end ... 7 sts.

Break off yarn leaving a long end.

Thread yarn through rem sts, draw up tightly and fasten off securely.

Using same long end, join side edges tog to form centre back seam, reversing seam for brim rows.

FINISHING

DO NOT PRESS. Place hat on head and catch in position on sides above brim. Using small amount of black yarn, work 2 french knots as pictured. Slip on shorts and using C2, work 2 cross stitches on front and 1 cross st at centre back through shorts and torso as pictured to hold in position.
