LANYARDS
Level: Beginner
What you'll need:
- 3 inch x 40 inch strip of Cotton fabric
- 3/4 inch x 38 inch piece of Fusible fleece interfacing or batting
- Matching Gutermann 100% cotton thread
- Pins, tape measure, scissors
- Lanyard hardware, swivel hook
- Iron
- Sewing machine
Read all instructions carefully before commencing the project.
Instructions
- With wrong sides facing, fold and press the cotton fabric in half lengthways to create a crease down the centre.
- Open the fabric and fold the outer edges in to the centre crease and press.
- Fold the strip in half and repress the centre crease.
- Open the strip. Leaving 1 inch at each end, lay the fleece/batting inside the strip along one side of the centre fold so it will refold as it was.
- Refold all layers and press. Pin or clip the folded edges together.
- On your sewing machine, set the stitch length to 3.0. Top-stitch along each long edge, 3mm from edge of fabric.
- Before adding the swivel, drape the lanyard around your neck and lay the ends on top of each other. Hold those ends together as you remove the lanyard. This ensures it will sit comfortably when sewn.
- Align the raw ends of the lanyard. Pull the swivel hook through both strap ends.
- Slide the top strap 1/2" away from the end of bottom strap, exposing 1/2 inch of the bottom strap. Fold this 1/2" of revealed bottom strap up and over the end of the top strap to cover the raw edge of the top end.
- To secure, topstitch along the folded edge, stitching through all layers.
