Instructions
Reference the downloadable project sheet for project pattern diagrams.
Step 1
- Pebeo Gloss Paint: Anthracite Black
Use a fine brush to lightly line in the design on each surface.
Step 2
- Pebeo Gloss Paint: Marseilles Yellow
- Pebeo Pearl Paint: Gold
- Pebeo Matt Paint: Powder White
- Pebeo Marker: Earth Brown, Agate Orange
Across all 3 surfaces, use Earth Brown marker to colour the upper head end of each moth and some of the flecks on the wings (mirror placement of flecks on each wing for the same moth). Use the Agate Orange marker to colour the lengthened mark on each wing and some flecks. On your palette, mix Marseilles Yellow with a little Powder White and paint additional marks on wings. Mix Marseilles Yellow and Gold and use to paint the larger circle on tips of wings.
Step 3
- Pebeo Gloss Paint: Opaline Blue
- Pebeo Matt Paint: Powder White
On tear off palette, mix Opaline Blue with Powder White and use to paint inside the wings of the moths around the other colours already painted in previous step.
Step 4
- Pebeo Gloss Paint: Ruby Red, Parma Violet, Anthracite Black
Mix Ruby Red and Parma Violet on palette to create a burgundy colour. Use to paint the outer skin of the pomegranates. Add some Anthracite Black to the mix to create any areas of darker tone, and use Ruby Red on its own where desired. Use these mixes to paint the seeds inside the pomegranate as well.
Step 5
- Pebeo Gloss Paint: Ruby Red, Scarlet Red
Use colours on own or mixed to paint the wings of the ladybugs around the black areas.
Step 6
- Pebeo Gloss Paint: Marseilles Yellow, Citrine Yellow, Lapis Blue and/or Anthracite Black
- Pebeo Matt Paint: Powder White
- Pebeo Pearl Paint: Gold
- Pebeo Marker: Agate Orange
Use the Yellows and Gold, and Agate Orange marker on their own to colour some round and oval shaped marks in the centre of the open flowers. Create mixes of Yellows and Gold colours (optional add White) and use to paint other marks in the same area so that there is a variety of different yellows in the centre. Use White to paint the petals and add a touch of Gold or Marseilles Yellow as a soft blend in places coming from centre of flower and/or petal edges as desired. Use the Gold and a Yellow mixed with White to paint in the lemon toned fruit as shown. Use a small amount of Lapis Blue or Anthracite Black to sparingly add some outlines to some of the circular and oval shapes in the centre of the flowers.
Step 7
- Pebeo Gloss Paints: Marseilles Yellow, Ruby Red, Anthracite Black
- Pebeo Matt Paint: Powder White
Mix Yellow, Red and White together on palette to create a soft pink-peach colour. Use to paint in the dividing spaces inside of the open pomegranates that border the sections of grouped seeds. Also paint some randomly in around the seeds where there are gaps between them. In other gaps around the seeds add some Anthracite Black.
Step 8
- Pebeo Gloss Paint: Parma Violet, Ruby Red, Anthracite Black
- Pebeo Matt Paint: Powder White
Mix colours together to create different mixes of purple-blacks and red-blacks and use to paint in the blackberries. Mix Parma Violet and White and use to paint in the blueberry on each surface.
Step 9
- Pebeo Gloss Paint: Olivine Green
- Pebeo Pearl Paint: Gold
- Pebeo Matt Paint: Powder White, Powder Green
Use colours on their own (except Gold) and as mixes and use to paint in the various leaves across each surface, making a distinction in greens across the different leaf shapes and pairs to create contrast. Line work can be added to indicate veins of leaf by dragging fine brush through applied paint if desired.
Step 10
- Pebeo Gloss Paint: Marseilles Yellow, Fuchsia
- Pebeo Matt Paint: Powder White
- Pebeo Marker: Earth Brown
Paint petals of unopened pomegranate flower with white and blend in some yellow at base of petals. Paint the triangular base of pomegranate flower Fuchsia. Use brown marker to colour the stem nib under the leaves.
Step 11
- Pebeo Gloss Paint: Marseilles Yellow, Ruby Red
- Pebeo Matt Paint: Powder White
Mix colours together on tear off palette to create an earthy peach tone. Paint a layer in the white space around the images already painted, so that the entire outer white surface is covered, while leaving the upper part of the rim clean. Note that once this layer is dry, you will likely need to apply a second and perhaps a third layer to provide a good coverage and smoother brushwork for the surface area. If there are slight variations in the colour mixed and applied at each layer or in various areas of the surface, this is okay if it blends well.
Step 12
Once the paint has dried for 48 hours, place the pieces in a cold oven and heat to 150 degrees Celsius. Bake for 35 minutes at 150 degrees Celsius.
