Back

Using 4.50 mm needles and MC, cast on 63 (69-77) sts loosely.

Change to 3.75 mm needles.

Lower Band -

1st row - K2, * P1, K1, rep from * to last st, K1.

2nd row - K1, * P1, K1, rep from * to end.

Last 2 rows form rib.

Cont in rib until work measures 8 cm from beg, ending with a 2nd row.

Change to 4.50 mm needles.

Using C1, work in stocking st until work measures 16cm from beg, ending with a purl row.

Using C2, work in stocking st until work measures 20cm from beg, ending with a purl row.

Tie a coloured thread at each end of last row to mark end of pocket openings.

Using C2, cont in stocking st until work measures 24cm from beg, ending with a purl row.

Using MC for rem, cont in stocking st until work measures 32cm from beg, ending with a purl row.

Shape Armholes -

Cast off 4 (5-7) sts loosely at beg of next 2 rows ... 55 (59-63) sts.

Dec one st at each end of next row, then in every foll alt row until 45 (47-49) sts rem.

Cont in stocking st until armholes measure 14.5 (15-15.5) cm, ending with a purl row.

Work 16 (18-20) rows stocking st.

Shape Shoulders -

Cast off 5 sts loosely at beg of next 4 rows, then 4sts loosely at beg of foll 2 rows.

Leave rem 17 (19-21) sts on stitch-holder for Hood.

Left Front

Using 4.50 mm needles and M, cast on 31 (33-37) sts loosely.

Change to 3.75 mm needles.

Lower Band -

Work in rib as for lower band of Back until work measures 8cm from beg, ending with a 2nd row and inc 0 (1-1) st/s in centre of last row ... 31 (34-38) sts.

Change to 4.50mm needles. **

1st row (RS) - Using C1, Knit.

2nd row - K1, purl to last 2sts, K2.

Rep 1st and 2nd rows until work measures 16cm from beg, ending with a 2nd row.

Using C2, rep 1st and 2nd rows until work measures 20cm from beg ending with a 2nd row, thus completing pocket opening.

Next row - Using C2, Knit.

Next row - K1, purl to end.

Rep last 2 rows until work measures 24cm from beg, working last row on WS.

Using MC for rem, rep last 2 rows until work measures 32cm from beg, working last row on WS.

Shape Armhole -

Cast off 4 (5-7) sts loosely, knit to end ... 27 (29-31) sts.

Next row (WS) - K1, purl to end.

Next row (RS) - K2tog, knit to end ... 26 (28-30) sts.

Rep last 2 rows until 22 (23-24) sts rem, thus working last row on RS.

Keeping 1 garter st at front edge correct, cont until armhole measures 14.5 (15-15.5) cm, working last row on WS.

Work 1 row.

Shape Neck -

1st row (WS) - Cast off 4 (5-5) sts loosely, purl to end ... 18 (18-19) sts.

*** Dec one st at neck edge in next row, then in every foll alt row until 15 (15-16) sts rem, then in every foll 4th row until 14 sts rem.

Work 5 (7-5) rows stocking st.

Shape Shoulder -

Cast off 5 sts loosely at beg of next row, then in foll alt row.

Work 1 row.

Cast off rem 4sts loosely. ***

Right Front

Work as for Left Front to **.

1st row (RS) - Using C1, Knit.

2nd row - K2, purl to last st, K1.

Rep 1st and 2nd rows until work measures 16cm from beg, ending with a 2nd row.

Using C2, rep 1st and 2nd rows until work measures 20cm from beg ending with a 2nd row, thus completing pocket opening.

Next row - Using C2, Knit.

Next row - Purl to last st, K1.

Rep last 2 rows until work measures 24cm from beg, working last row on WS.

Using MC for rem, rep last 2 rows until work measures 32cm from beg, working last row on WS.

Work 1 row.

Shape Neck -

1st row (RS) - Cast off 4 (5-5) sts loosely, knit to end ... 18 (18-19) sts.

Work 1 row.

Rep from *** to *** of Left Front, working 1 more row before shoulder shaping.

Right Side of Hood

Using mattress st, join shoulder seams. With RS facing, using 4.50mm needles and M, knit up 20 (23-25) sts evenly along Right Front neck edge, then across first 9 (10-11) sts from back stitch-holder ... 26 (33-36) sts.

Work in stocking st beg with a purl row, until hood measures 23cm, ending with a purl row.

Shaping -

Cont in stocking st, dec one st at end of next row, then in every foll 4th row twice more ... 26 (30-33) sts.

Cast off 5 (7-9) sts loosely purlways at beg of next row ... 21 (23-24) sts.

Work 1 row.

Cast off 6 (8-9) sts purlways at beg of next row ... 15 sts.

Work 1 row.

Cast off rem 15 sts loosely purlways.

Left Side of Hood

With RS facing, using 4.50mm needles and MC, knit across rem sts from back stitch-holder - inc in first, st, then knit up 20 (23-25) sts evenly along Left Front neck edge ... 29 (33-36) sts.

Work in stocking st beg with a purl row, until hood measures 23 cm, ending with a purl row.

Shaping -

Cont in stocking st, dec one st at beg of next row, then in every foll 4th row twice more ... 26 (30-33) sts.

Work 1 row.

Cast off 5 (7-9) sts loosely at beg of next row ... 21 (23-24) sts.

Work 1 row.

Cast off 6 (8-9) sts loosely at beg of next row ... 15 sts.

Work 1 row.

Cast off rem 15 sts loosely.

Armhole Bands

With RS facing using 3.75 mm needles and M, knit up 90 (98-108) sts evenly along left armhole edge.

Cast off loosely.

Rep along right armhole edge.

Left Pocket Lining

With RS facing using 4.50 mm needles and MC, knit up 15sts evenly from coloured thread to top of lower band on left side edge of Back.

Work in stocking st, beg with a purl row, until lining measures 29 (32-36) cm, ending with a purl row.

Cast off loosely.

Right Pocket Lining

With RS facing using 4.50 mm needles and MC, knit up 15 sts evenly from top of lower band to coloured thread on right side edge of Back.

Complete as for Left Pocket Lining.

Hood Edging

Using mattress st, join left and right sides of Hood together. With RS facing using 4.50mm needles and MC, knit up 74 sts evenly around face edge.

Work 2 rows stocking st beg with a purl row.

Next row (foldline) - Knit.

Work 2 rows stocking st beg with a knit row.

Cast off loosely.

I-Cord

Using double pointed 4.50 mm needles and M, cast on 3 sts.

1st row - Knit, do not turn.

Slip sts to other end of needle, pull yarn firmly across back of work and rep 1st row.

Work each row in same direction until I-cord measures 110 cm.

Break off yarn, thread end through rem sts, draw up tightly and fasten off securely.

Finishing

DO NOT PRESS. Using mattress st, join side and armhole edging seams, omitting pocket opening. Slip st pocket linings in position to WS of Fronts. Fold Hood edging to WS at foldline and slip st in position. Thread I-cord through edging and draw up to desired fit.
