Instructions

Note: When starting a new part of the garment, match to the colour previously used. This may require winding off some yarn from the new ball until the required colour is reached.

Back

Beg Lower Band -

Using 3.25mm needles, cast on 110 (122-134-142) sts.

1st Row (RS) - K2, * P2, K2, rep from * to end.

2nd Row - P2, * K2, P2, rep from * to end.

Last 2 rows form rib.

Cont in rib until work measures 7cm from beg, ending with a 2nd row and inc (dec-dec-inc) one st in centre ... 111 (121-133-143) sts.

Change to 4mm needles.

Work in stocking st until work measures 25 (26-27-28) cm from beg, ending with a purl row.

Tie a coloured thread at each end of last row to mark beg of armholes as there is no armhole shaping.

Cont in stocking st until work measures 15 (16.5-17-18) cm from coloured threads ending with a purl row. **

Work a further 28 rows stocking st.

Shape Shoulders -

Cast off 36 (40-45-49) sts at beg of next 2 rows.

Leave rem 39 (41-43-45) sts on a stitch-holder for collar.

Front

Work as for Back to **.

Shape Neck -

1st Row (RS) - K46 (50-55-59), turn.

Cont on these 46 (50-55-59) sts for left side of neck.

*** Dec one st at neck edge in every foll alt row until 39 (43-48-52) sts rem, then in every foll 4th row until 36 (40-45-49) sts rem.

Work 1 row.

Shape Shoulder - Cast off rem 36 (40-45-49) sts. ***

Slip next 19 (21-23-25) sts onto stitch-holder and leave for collar.

Matching colour, join yarn to rem sts and knit to end.

Cont on these 46 (50-55-59) sts for right side of neck.

Rep from *** to ***, working one more row before casting off for shoulder.

Sleeves

Using 3.25mm needles, cast on 46 (46-50-50) sts.

Beg Cuff -

Work in rib as for lower band of Back until work measures 12cm from beg, ending with a 2nd Row.

Change to 4mm needles.

1st Row (RS) - * K1, inc in next st, rep from * to last 2 sts, K2 ... 68 (68-74-74) sts.

Working in stocking st beg with a purl row, inc one st at each end of every foll alt row until there are 80 (88-94-102) sts, then in every foll 4th row until there are 114 (118-124-128) sts.

Cont without shaping until work measures 44.5cm from beg ending with a purl row.

Pleats -

Next Row - K36 (38-41-43), [slip next 4 sts onto a cable needle and leave at back of work, knit first st on left-hand needle tog with first st from cable needle (dec), rep until all sts have been worked off cable needle (4sts dec - 1 pleat formed), K3] twice, K1, [slip next 4 sts onto cable needle and leave at front of work, knit first st from cable needle with first st from left-hand needle (dec), rep until all sts have been worked off cable needle (4 sts dec - 1 pleat formed), K3] twice, knit to end ... 98 (102-108-112) sts - 4 pleats in all.

Work 3 rows stocking st beg with a purl row.

Cast off.

Collar

Using mattress st, join right Shoulder seam. With RS facing and using 3.25mm needles, knit up 28sts evenly along left side of neck, knit across 19 (21-23-25) sts from Front stitch-holder, knit up 28sts evenly along right side of neck, then knit across 39 (41-43-45) sts from Back stitch-holder ... 114 (118-122-126) sts.

Work in rib as for lower band of Back beg with a 2nd Row, until Collar measures 5cm, ending with a 2nd Row.

Cast off loosely in rib.

Finishing

DO NOT PRESS. Using mattress st, join left Shoulder and Neckband seam. Sew in Sleeves evenly between coloured threads, placing centre of Sleeves to Shoulder seams. Join side and Sleeve seams.
