Special Abbreviations

Dc2tog = dc 2sts together - insert hook through specified st, pull a loop through, insert hook through foll st, pull a loop through, yoh and pull through all 3 loops on hook.

Beg Foundation Row on Clasp Frame -

Using 4mm hook and C1, make 1ch. At one hinge end of open frame, pass hook under frame, yoh and pull loop to front of frame firmly, yoh and pull a loop through both loops on hook (1dc made). Continue working firm dc around one side of the clasp frame until 96sts are worked, placing stitch markers on 36th and 60th stitches. Fasten off, leaving a tail for sewing.

Using 4mm hook and C2, work 96dc around other side of clasp frame in the same way, placing stitch markers on the 36th and 60th stitches. Fasten off, leaving a tail for sewing.

Beg First Side of Bag -

Using 4mm hook and C1, make 45ch, placing stitch markers on 7th and 38th chains.

1st Row (RS) - Miss 1ch, 1dc in back bump of next and each ch to end, leaving stitch markers in place ... 44sts.

2nd Row - 1ch (does not count as a st throughout), 1dc in same and each st to end.

3rd - 22nd Row - Rep 2nd Row.

23rd Row - 1ch, 1dc in same st, (1dc through a D-ring and into next st) 3 times, 1dc in each st to last 4sts, (1dc through 2nd D-Ring and into next st) 3 times, 1dc in last st.

24th Row - 1ch, slst in same and each of next 4sts, 1ch, 1dc in same and each st to last 4sts, turn.

25th Row - 1ch, 1dc in same and next 35sts, turn ... 36sts, cont on these 36sts.

26th - 30th Row - Rep 25th Row.

31st Row - 1ch, dc2tog same and next st, 1dc in each st to last 2sts, dc2tog last 2sts ... 34sts.

32nd Row - 1ch, 1dc in same and each st to end.

33rd - 36th Row - Rep 31st and 32nd Row ... 30sts.

37th Row - Rep 31st Row ... 28sts.

38th Row - Rep 31st Row ... 26sts. Place stitch markers in first and last sts of this row.

Fasten off, leaving a tail for sewing.

Beg Base -

With RS facing, rotate work so stitch markers are at the top. Join yarn to first stitch marker using 4mm hook.

1st Row - 1ch, 1dc in same and each st to, and including, second marked st, turn ... 32sts.

2nd Row - 1ch, 1dc in same and each st to end.

3rd - 6th Row - Rep 2nd Row.

Fasten off, leaving a tail for sewing.

Beg Second Side of Bag -

Using 4mm hook and C2, work the second side as for the First Side until 22nd row is complete.

23rd Row - 1ch, 1dc in same st, put WS together of both Side Pieces, (1dc through nearest D-Ring on First Side and into next st) 3 times, 1dc in each st to last 4sts, (1dc through second D-Ring on First Side and into next st) 3 times, 1dc in last st.

Cont as for First Side from 24th Row to end.

Strap

Using 4mm hook and C1, make 212ch.

1st Row - Working into back bump of ch, miss 1ch, 1dc in next ch (place stitch marker in this ch), * miss 2ch, 5tr in next ch, miss 2ch, 1dc in next ch, rep from * to end.

Fasten off.

Working on opp side of base chains, join C2 to stitch-marked ch.

1st Row - 1ch, 1dc in same ch, * miss 2ch, 5tr in next ch, miss 2ch, 1dc in next ch, rep from * to end.

Fasten off.

Finishing

DO NOT PRESS. Using mattress st, sew sides together, base seam, then sew sides to base. Using whip stitch, sew tops of bag to clasp frame, matching stitch markers and sewing from each stitch marker down to hinge, making sure D-Rings are positioned at bottom of hinge ends and that the centre of each side is left unsewn to form opening for clutch. Pass one end of Strap through D-Ring on Bag Clip and fold first Rosette back onto second Rosette, sew in place. Repeat on other end of Strap with second Bag Clip. Sew in ends.
