Instructions

Note: This template has been scaled. You will need to print this template at actual size and blow it up by 145% to make it full size.
Cutting
Halloween Print Fabrics
From each Halloween print fabric:
- Cut one 15" x Width of Fabric (WOF) strip.
- Using Template A, cut 3 pieces.
- Using Template B, cut 3 pieces.
- Retain the remaining fabric from each strip. The fabric offcuts will be used later to complete the outer edges of the quilt.
Black Fabric
- Cut eight 6" x Width of Fabric (WOF) strips.
- Using Template A, cut 30 black parallelograms.
- Retain the remaining strip ends and offcuts. These will be used later to complete the outer edges of the quilt.
Note: Only one template is required for the black fabric as it is non-directional.
Constructing the Quilt Top
Step 1
Arrange the cut pieces into 10 columns, using the finished quilt photograph as a guide for print placement.
Construct the columns as follows:
- Columns 1, 3, 5, 7 & 9: Alternate Black and Template A, beginning with Black and ending with Template A.
- Columns 2, 4, 6, 8 & 10: Alternate Template B and Black, beginning with Template B and ending with Black.
Step 2
Working one column at a time, sew the pieces together using a 1/4" (6mm) seam allowance.
Tip: The template corners have been trimmed to make joining the parallelograms easier. Use the trimmed corners as guides when aligning the angled edges before stitching.
Tip: As the edges of the parallelograms are cut on the bias, they can stretch easily. A temporary fabric adhesive, such as Aleene's No Sew Fabric Glue (118mL), can be used to baste the pieces together before stitching. When pressing, lift and lower the iron rather than sliding it across the fabric to help prevent the bias edges from stretching or distorting.
Repeat until all 10 columns have been completed.
Step 3
Using the reserved fabric offcuts, sew the remaining pieces to the outside edges of the completed columns where required to extend the outer edges of the quilt.
Join the completed columns together in order using a 1/4" (6mm) seam allowance, carefully matching the seam intersections.
Once the quilt top has been assembled, trim the outer edges straight.
Press the completed quilt top.
Quilting
Step 4
Layer the backing fabric (right side down), batting and quilt top (right side up).
Baste using your preferred method.
Step 5
Quilt as desired. Trim away the excess batting and backing.
Binding
Step 6
Prepare and attach the binding using your preferred binding method.
Fold the binding to the back and secure by hand or machine.
Give the finished quilt a final press.
