FOLD UP LEATHER GLASSES CASE & EARRINGS

Fold Up Leather Glasses Case & Earrings Project

Instructions

Let's make!

Design

Open the Design Space project link: https://design.cricut.com/landing/project-detail/6a7ab3900b2592c6aef8f125

  1. Click 'Customise' to open the design on the Canvas tab.
  2. For the glasses case, personalise the design by adding a name or text of your choice. Select the text and resize it to fit the front flap of the case. You can also resize the earring design to suit your chosen leather or faux leather.
  3. When you are happy with your designs, click 'Make' in the top toolbar and follow the prompts to connect your Cricut Smart Cutting Machine.

Cut

  1. Place your leather or faux leather onto a StrongGrip Cutting Mat, ensuring it is firmly secured and smooth.
Tip: Use masking tape around the edges of the material to help keep it securely in place during cutting. Make sure the tape does not cover any areas that need to be cut.
  2. In Design Space, select 'With Mat' and choose the appropriate material setting for your leather or faux leather. Follow the prompts to load your mat into your Cricut cutting machine. Insert the appropriate blade and follow the prompts to cut the glasses case and earring pieces. Once the cut is complete, unload the mat and carefully remove the leather pieces.
Tip: Test cut a small piece of your leather first to ensure the selected material setting gives you the desired cut.

Assemble the case

  1. Carefully fold the leather pieces along the designated fold lines to form the glasses case. Follow the project design as a guide, ensuring the edges and flaps are aligned correctly.
  2. Fold the sides and bottom of the case into position and secure according to the Design Space project instructions.
  3. Make sure the case is securely fastened and that the front flap can fold over the top to close the case.

Personalise

  1. If using iron-on for the personalised name, place your iron-on shiny side down onto the cutting mat.
  2. Place the glasses case on your Cricut EasyPressMat. Position the iron-on design onto the front flap of the case with the carrier sheet facing upwards.
  3. Open the Cricut Heat Guide in Design Space and select your EasyPress model, heat-transfer material and base material for the recommended temperature and pressing time. Carefully press the design onto the leather. Follow the Heat Guide instructions for a warm or cool peel, then carefully remove the carrier sheet to reveal your personalised design.

Assemble the Earrings

  1. Carefully remove any excess leather from around your cut earring designs. If your design includes multiple layers, arrange the pieces according to the Design Space project.
  2. Position the decorative pieces onto the main earring shapes. Secure the layers with a small amount of suitable leather adhesive, if required. Allow the adhesive to dry completely before attaching the hardware.
  3. Using jewellery pliers, attach a jump ring to the hole at the top of each leather earring. Attach the earring hook to the jump ring and gently close the ring using the pliers. Repeat for the second earring.
Tip: Make sure all jump rings are completely closed and secure before wearing.

Your personalised leather glasses case and matching earrings are now ready to use or gift! Experiment with different leather colours, iron-on colours and personalised names to create a unique accessory set.
