Level: Beginner
What you'll need:
- 35 x 35cm quilting cotton fabric for each placement
- 35 x 35cm fusible batting for each placement
- 10 cm x 115 cm strip of quilting cotton for each placement
- Matching Thread
- Sewing Machine
- Iron
- Scissors
- Pin
- Optional: Overlocker
Instructions
For each placement cut:
- 1 x 35 cm circle in quilting cotton fabric
- 1 x 35 cm circle in fusible wadding
- 1 x 10 cm x 115 cm in quilting cotton
Construction:
- Fuse the wadding to the back of the cotton.
- Press the strip in half lengthwise with wrong sides together.
- Using a long stitch, gather up the ruffle along the cut edge and draw up the gathering until it fits the circle, leaving a 10 centimetre overlap.
- With right sides together, stitch the ruffle onto the outside of the circle, tapering in the ends to overlap.
- Overlock or zigzag the seam and then press so the seam allowance is towards the centre.
