FELT DOOR DECORATION

Instructions

Reference the downloadable project sheet for project pattern diagrams.

No Sew Version: Glue all pieces together with either hot glue or craft glue

Sewn Version: Top stitch each piece on, stitching 5mm in from outer edges

This door decoration has been made to fit a maximum of 90cm wide (width of felt fabric) by 204cm high door.

If your door is narrower, adjust width measurements to suit your door by evenly trimming the template from either side edge.

If your door is wider, you will have to cut the pieces up the length of the fabric rather than using the 90cm width of fabric. More fabric will be required, adjust to suit.

If your door is shorter, trim the excess from the base of the template.

If your door is higher, add additional to the base of the template.

To make a template pattern for Santa door decoration, use the provided templates & instructions to measure and mark out shapes on to calico or paper. Adjust sizing for your door as mentioned above. Cut template pattern out.

Hat Template

Note: This template has been scaled. You will need to print this template at actual size and blow it up by 220% to make it full size.

Beard Template

Eyes, Nose & Moustache Template

Door Base Piece

1. Cut a piece of red felt measuring 1.1m high by the 90cm width of felt.
2. Measure and mark where your door handle is and cut out a piece from the felt so that the handle can slip through it

Belt

1. Cut a strip of black felt measuring 13cm high by the width of the felt fabric.
2. Cut a piece of yellow felt measuring 18cm high by 20cm wide. To create buckle, cut a piece out of the middle of the yellow piece measuring 10cm high by 12cm. This should leave a 4cm wide buckle shape.
3. Sew or glue the black belt to the red felt base across the width, 50cm up from the base edge. Sew or glue the buckle centred to the middle of the belt. Cut out circles for buttons from yellow felt. Position the first button 7cm up from the top of the buckle in the middle, with a 7cm gap between the second button, sew or glue to felt door base.

Beard & Moustache

1. From template provided, cut out beard and 2x moustache pieces from white felt.
2. Pin beard to felt base with the top of the beard 1.25m up from the base edge. If the beard goes over the hole for the handle, trim beard to fit the cut hole. Sew or glue beard in place.
3. Arrange moustache pieces as per image or as desired. Sew or glue in place.

Nose & Eyes

1. Cut out a 25cm circle from camel felt for the nose. Position over and above the middle of the moustache as per image or as desired. Sew or glue in place.
2. From template provided, cut out 2x eye pieces from black felt and two small strips from white felt, each measuring 1cm wide by 3cm long.
3. As per indicated on template, sew or glue white felt strips to black eye pieces.
4. Add Sticky Velcro to back of eyes, so they can be stuck to the door.

Hat outside of the door

1. The size of the hat outside the door will depend on the side of your door jam and the space surrounding it. Please adjust size to suit.
2. Cut out a hat shape from red felt. Cut out 2x circles from the template provided from white felt.
3. Place the tip of the hat between the two circles as per image or as desired. Pin circles together, aligning outer edges. Sew or glue circles together enclosing the tip of the Santa hat inside.
4. From template provided, cut the hat trim piece from white felt. Pin to the door felt base, aligning the side and top edges. Sew or glue in place.

Suggestions for the attachment to door

Door decoration can be attached to door via your personal preference.

Velcro Heavy Duty tape can be used on the back of the felt door decoration and attached to door with the other side of the Velcro tape or using 3M removable command poster strips.
