BAKE A MONSTER CAKE!
Level: Beginner
What You'll Need:
- Roberts Edible Craft - Vanilla Cake Mix
- Roberts Edible Craft - Swiss Meringue Buttercream Mix
- Blue and Orange Colouring (Can use powder or gel colouring)
- 14" Piping Bags
- Wiltons Grass (Multi Opening) Tip 233
- 7 or 8" Cake Tin
- Cake Board for display / serving.
Note: This cake can be made in different sizes based on the tins you have. You can create a single 4" tall round cake (and cut in half to add a filling layer) or a double-stacked cake.
Instructions
- Bake the Cake: Prepare the vanilla cake according to the instructions on the Roberts Edible Craft mix, using the tin size of your choice.
- Shape the Cake: Once cooled, trim one side of the round cake to create a flat edge (for an 8" cake, cut off approx. 4.5 cm).
If making a double-layer cake, add any filling between layers now. - Prepare the Buttercream: Make a batch of the Swiss Meringue Buttercream. Remove about 1/4 of the buttercream and colour it orange. Colour the remaining buttercream blue.
- Position the Cake: Spread a small amount of buttercream on the cake board (to secure the cake) and place the cake, cut flat-side down.
- Pipe the Blue Fur: Fill a piping bag fitted with a grass tip (#233) with the blue buttercream. Pipe small tufts all over the cake to represent monster fur, leaving gaps for the orange accents.
- Pipe the Orange Fur: Fill another piping bag with the orange buttercream and fit the grass tip (#233). Fill in the gaps with orange tufts to complete the fur effect.
- Add the Face Features: Cut out the horn, eye, and mouth templates and attach them to the cake using a small amount of buttercream.
