Pastel Party Decorations - How to Host a Pastel Themed Party
With so many party themes out there, it can be a struggle to pinpoint what direction you wish to go in for your party decorations. Some may opt for superhero themed birthdays while others may prefer celebrating with a disco event. One of the most convenient ways of planning a party theme without getting too stuck on movies or eras involves picking a particular colour scheme and sticking to it in terms of your party supplies and decorations.
This is where a pastel themed party becomes a favourite party concept. This party theme follows a colour palette of light colour tones including pinks, yellows, blues and more, so you're not limited to one specific colour, unless you prefer to stick to one! To create a cohesive pastel themed party, you should look for coordinating pastel party decorations and necessary party supplies. We've put together a checklist of decorations and servingware to consider when shopping for your pastel party supplies.

Pastel Party Supplies: Essential Party Servingware
The perfect start to your pastel themed party is to infuse your table setting with this chosen party theme. Establish a colour palette through your servingware that you can base your decorations off - after all, your party table is typically the heart of your celebrations.
The recommended formula to follow for a pastel themed party table is as follows:
- Tablecloth or table cover: This forms the base of your table setting and protects your dining table from any mess or spills that may occur throughout the event. For a pastel themed party, you can start with a table cover in a plain white or dive straight into the colour palette with a pale shade of your favourite colour.
- Placemats: Where a table cover forms the base of your entire table setting, placemats form the base to your place settings. They help to define each place setting for your guests to sit and enjoy their meal. Like tablecloths, placemats for this party theme work best in white or pastel-coloured tones.
- Party Plates, Party Bowls and Party Cups: Essential for any party, no matter the meal you're serving up. This is where you can have fun with your colours and patterns. You can go for one colour scheme, shopping for plates, bowls and cups all in the same colour, or add a cheerful pastel display and instead shop for complementary colours in different tones - think pastel pink cups, light purple bowls and soft blue plates.
- Party Cutlery: It's important to provide the necessary cutlery for any meal. While cutlery sets most often feature a neutral, plain design, you can find some colourful cutlery sets to complement your pastel theme.
- Serviettes: Complete your table setting with serviettes. Whether you display them in a pile in the middle of your table or set out a serviette for each guest, look for serviettes in pastel colour tones to complement your tableware. You can pair your serviettes to your plates, bowls and cups with one specific colour tone, or again, look for a different pastel colour tone for a colourful table setting.
It's the smaller details that will set your table apart. When we hear the term decorations, we most often think of larger decorative displays like balloon garlands and photo walls, however incorporating smaller pastel party decorations into your table setting can cement your party theme.
Think pastel toned centrepieces like candles, candle holders or even bouquets of artificial flowers. You can also incorporate additional details to your table settings with pastel toned place cards. Think about making your own or shopping for pastel place cards and accompanying them with coordinating party tableware.
Add a whimsical twist to your pastel themed party with hanging decorations. Not many decorations are as whimsical and playful as streamers. Streamers look great when suspended from high vantage points like your ceiling, or even in your doorways. Create an exciting entryway for your guests to enter through and establish your party theme right from your front door!
Streamers are an easy decorative display that look great in both singular pastel colour tones as well as a multicoloured pastel decorative display. Check out our free project for an easy-to-follow guide on setting up a DIY Streamer Wall.
A backdrop will help you set the scene for your party and assists you in creating your overall party theme. You can shop from a range of wall decorations and pre-made backdrops or put your crafting skills to the test and create your own. You can use pastel tissue paper to create a textured wall or use cardboard and poster paper to DIY a colourful sign to display as your backdrop.
These decorations are not just a backdrop to your party, but also backdrops to your guests' photos! They provide a designated photo spot for your guests to pose in front of to capture a memory of your celebration. And, when you throw a pastel themed party with a colourful backdrop, any photos taken will appear to be from a bright and cheerful day!
Classic Decorations For Any Themed Party: Pastel Balloons
When it comes to party decorations, no decoration is as classic and timeless as balloons. They are great for bringing a celebratory mood to any event, whether it be a birthday, baby shower or wedding. As they are a classic decoration and generally eye-catching no matter how you display them, they can significantly influence your party theme. With so many designs and styles to choose from, you can find balloons to match just about any party theme.
Pastel balloons instantly add a softness to any venue, perfect for communicating your theme of soft, light colours. You can shop for balloons in an array of different pastel tones for a colourful effect, or stick to one pastel colour palette.
Think about how you wish to arrange your balloons. If you're after a bouquet-like arrangement, make sure you have an equal number of balloons per bouquet for perfect symmetry in your decorations. Or, if you're after a more minimalist balloon decoration, shop for single round balloons in larger sizes. No need to organise in bouquets - with these balloons, less is more. You can shop from a range of different sizes and shapes to find the best balloons for your event.
Creative Pastel Balloon Garland
Balloons are a versatile decoration that can be displayed suspended from your ceiling, or floating while attached to string connected to a weight to keep it in place. One of the most popular ways of making your balloons a focal point of your decorative ensemble is to create a balloon garland.
A balloon garland features an arrangement of balloons attached to a stable arch or structure for a captivating display. These garlands are commonly used as a backdrop for celebrations, making for the perfect pastel photo-opportunity. Party Favours: Pastel Party Bags and Pastel Party Hats
Make guests feel welcomed into your party space with party favours! Stick to a pastel theme and shop for pastel party bags to treat your guests with. If you want to go the extra mile, you can include small gifts and toys that adhere to the same colour scheme as your party. Or, if you're simply looking for the perfect whimsical accessory, pastel party hats will do! Guests can wear these throughout the party and while they enjoy their delicious party food. Party hats are also ideal when hosting kids' parties in public spaces as it makes it easy to keep an eye on your child's guests, so you can make sure no kid misses out on birthday cake!
