Everything You Need to Make a Balloon Stand

There are a few tools and supplies you'll need to make sure you have on hand before beginning your balloon stand. Make sure to have the following ready to go:

  • Balloons: Latex balloons work best for a balloon stand. Look for handy latex balloon packs and bundles. For this balloon stand you will need:
    • 20 latex balloons in one colour
    • 20 latex balloons in a different colour
    • 1 modelling balloon
    • 1 Orbz foil balloon
  • Electric balloon pump: Because you'll need to inflate a large number of balloons, a balloon pump makes inflating your balloons that little bit faster.
  • Balloon sizer box: When assembling a balloon stand, it's important that your balloons are all the same size. A balloon sizer helps you to ensure your balloons are all the same size.
  • Telescopic balloon stand: With a stable base, a balloon stand forms the foundation of your decorative arrangement.
  • Treatment spray: If you want to leave your balloons looking shimmering, you can also add treatment spray as a finishing touch.

How to Assemble A Balloon Stand

Now that you know how to inflate a balloon and you've got everything you need for your decorative display, we'll take you through how to make a balloon stand in six easy steps.

1. Adjust - Stabilise and Choose Your Height

Start by making sure you have your sturdy base prepared. If you're working with a stand like the Sparty's Telescopic Balloon Stand, fill the base of the stand with water to help keep it stabilised. Place the stainless-steel rod into the respective hole of the base and adjust the telescopic balloon stand to your desired height.

2. Inflate - Using an Electric Pump, Inflate Your Balloons

Inflate two of your balloons in the same colour. You can use a balloon sizer box to make sure your balloons are inflated to 10" or your desired size, keeping them nice and even.

3. Tie - Pair Up Two Balloons and Tie Together

Tie the two balloons together to make a pair. Make another pair of balloons in an alternate colour, remembering to use the balloon sizer to ensure they are the same size. Repeat Step 2.

4. Overlap - Twist Balloons Together

Grab both pairs of balloons and overlap the necks, then twist one balloon around a balloon of the other colour to form a cluster.

5. Continue - Keep Adding Balloons

Once you've got a balloon cluster, add it to the balloon stand, and continue the process until you're all the way to the top.

Tip: Alternate the colours within each cluster of balloons and maintain the same rotation direction as you add subsequent balloon clusters to create a nice, swirled effect.

6. Finish - Decorate and Adorn!

Now that the main foundation of your balloon stand is assembled, you can get creative with a few decorative touches. Most balloon stands feature a cup for holding an Orbz balloon that add the perfect finishing touch to your balloon arrangement.

Inflate your Orbz balloon and using a modelling balloon, tie off the neck securely. Feed the modelling balloon through the holes of the cup and secure the cup to the top of telescopic balloon stand to finish.

Tip: Spray the balloon stand with aerosol treatment spray outdoors or with a tarp cover on the floor to add extra shine and gloss.
