Special Stitches

C8F = slip next 4 sts onto cable needle and leave at front of work, K4, then K4 from cable needle.

Back & Front (Both alike)

Using 4 mm needles and C1, cast on 146 (168-190-212) sts.

Beg Lower Band Patt -

1st row (RS) - P3, * K8, P3, rep from * to end.

2nd row - K3, * P8, K3, rep from * to end.

Rep 1st and 2nd rows once more.

5th row - P3, * C8F, P3, rep from * to end.

6th row - As 2nd row.

Rep 1st and 2nd rows once.

Last 8 rows form lower band patt.

Cont in cable patt until work measures approx. 13cm from beg, ending with a 6th patt row.

Next row (RS) - P3, (K2tog, K1, K2tog, K1, K2tog, P3) 5 (6-7-8) times, (K8, P3) 3 times, (K2tog, K1, K2tog, K1, K2tog, P3) 5 (6-7-8) times ... 116 (132-148-164) sts.

Next row - K3, (P5, K3) 5 (6-7-8) times, (P8, K3) 3 times, (P5, K3) 5 (6-7-8) times.

Break off C1, change to C2 for remainder.

Beg Main Patt -

1st row (RS) - K40 (48-56-64), P3, (K8, P3) 3 times, K40 (48-56-64).

2nd row - P40 (48-56-64), K3, (P8, K3) 3 times, P40 (48-56-64).

Rep 1st and 2nd rows once more.

5th row - K40 (48-56-64), P3, (C8F, P3) 3 times, K40 (48-56-64).

6th row - As 2nd row.

Rep 1st and 2nd rows once.

Last 8 rows form main patt.

Cont in main patt until work measures 39 cm from beg, working last row on WS.

Tie a coloured thread at each end of last row to mark beg of armholes as there is no armhole shaping.

Cont in patt until work measures 16 (17-18-19) cm from coloured threads, working last row on WS.

Shape Neck -

Next row (RS) - Patt 43 (51-59-67), turn.

** Cont on these 43 (51-59-67) sts and dec one st at neck edge in every row until 39 (45-51-57) sts rem, then in every foll alt row until 34 (41-48-55) sts rem.

Work 1 row.

Shape Shoulder -

Cast off 11 (14-16-18) sts at beg of next row and foll alt row.

Work 1 row. Cast off rem 12 (13-16-19) sts. **

Slip next 30 sts on a stitch-holder and leave.

With RS facing, join C2 to rem sts and patt to end.

Rep from ** to **, working 1 row more before shoulder shaping.

Sleeves

Using 4 mm needles and C1, cast on 102 sts.

Beg Cuff Patt -

Work in lower band patt as for Back and Front until work measures approx 13 cm from beg, ending with a 6th patt row.

Next row (RS) - P3, (K2tog, K1, K2tog, K1, K2tog, P3) 4 times, K8, P3, (K2tog, K1, K2tog, K1, K2tog, P3) 4 times ... 78 sts.

Next row - K3, (P5, K3) 4 times, P8, K3, (P5, K3) 4 times.

Break off C1, change to C3 for the remainder.

Beg Main Patt -

1st row (RS) - K32, P3, K8, P3, K32.

2nd row - P32, K3, P8, K3, P32.

Rep 1st and 2nd rows once more.

5th row - K32, P3, C8F, P3, K32.

6th row - As 2nd row.

Rep 1st and 2nd rows once, inc one st at each end of next row ... 80 sts.

Cont in main patt (8 rows form patt rep and noting sts will be inc), inc one st at each end of foll 3rd row, then in every foll 4th row until there are 88 (92-96-102) sts.

Cont in main patt without shaping until work measures approx. 47 cm from beg, ending with a 4th patt row.

Next row (RS) - K37 (39-41-44), P3, K1, K2tog, K2, K2tog, K1, P3, K37 (39-41-44).

Next row - P37 (39-41-44), K3, P6, K3, P37 (39-41-44).

Cast off loosely.

Neckband

Using mattress st, join shoulder seams. With RS facing, using 3.25 mm circular needle and C2, knit up 16 sts evenly along left Front Neck, knit across sts from Front stitch-holder while decreasing 2sts for each cable (... 6sts decreased), knit up 16sts evenly along Right Front Neck, 16sts evenly along Right Back Neck, knit across sts from Back stitch-holder while decreasing 2sts for each cable (... 6sts decreased), then knit up 16sts evenly along left back neck ... 112sts.

1st Rnd - * K1, P1, rep from * to end.

Rep 1st Rnd until Neckband measures 3cm.

Cast off loosely in rib.

Finishing

DO NOT PRESS. Sew in sleeves evenly between coloured threads, placing centre of sleeves to shoulder seams. Join side and sleeve seams. Sew in all ends.
