Instructions

Beanie

Using 3.25mm needles, cast on 114 (122-126) sts.

Beg Brim -

1st row (RS) - K2, * P2, K2, rep from * to end.

2nd row - P2, * K2, P2, rep from * to end.

Rep last 2 rows until work measures 3 (4-4) cm from beg, ending with a 2nd row and inc 2 (0-2) sts evenly across last row ... 116 (122-128) sts.

Change to 4mm needles.

Work in stocking st until work measures 15 (17-19) cm from beg, ending with a purl row.

Shape Crown -

1st row (RS) - K1, * K2tog, K17 (18-19), rep from * to last st, K1 ... 110 (116-122) sts.

Work 3 rows stocking st, beg with a purl row.

5th row - K1, * K2tog, K16 (17-18), rep from * to last st, K1 ... 104 (110-116) sts.

6th row - Purl.

7th row - K1, * K2tog, K15 (16-17), rep from * to last st, K1 ... 98 (104-110) sts.

Cont dec in this manner (working one less st between dec) in every foll alt row until 80 sts rem.

Next row (WS) - Purl.

Beg Tails -

1st row (RS) - Cast off 10 sts, ** K20 (incl st on needle after cast off), turn,

Cont on these 20 sts for Tail.

Work in stocking st, dec one st at each end of every foll 10th row until 4 sts rem.

Work 9 rows stocking st, beg with a purl row.

Break off yarn leaving a long end. Thread yarn through rem sts, draw up tightly and fasten off securely.. **

With RS facing, rejoin yarn to rem sts, cast off 20 sts, rep from ** to **.

With RS facing, rejoin yarn to rem 10 sts, cast off.

Finishing

DO NOT PRESS. Using mattress st, join side edges tog to form centre back seam.

Join side edges of Tails and cast-off edges tog. Wind yarn around piece of cardboard 16 times and cut along one edge. Using 8 strands of yarn and a large crochet hook fold yarn in half and draw a loop through centre of first Tail end. Draw ends through the loop and pull gently to form a knot. Trim to desired length. Repeat on 2nd Tail with rem 8 strands of yarn.
