HALLOWEEN COFFIN CUSHION
Level: Intermediate
What you'll need:
- EPP coffin shape template (provided)
- Fabric scraps for coffins
- Lightweight fusible interfacing: at least 20" x 20"
- Fabric for back: at least 20" x 20"
- 16-18" Zipper
- Thread, hand sewing needle, sewing machine, zipper foot
- 18" x 18" Cushion insert
Instructions
Reference the downloadable project sheet for project pattern diagrams.
Front Panel
- Prepare coffin paper templates and enough fabric pieces, adding 1/4" seam allowance around each. (approx. 36 Coffins)
- Baste (thread baste or use glue) and hand-sew pieces together into a panel larger than 18½" x 18½".
- Remove all papers.
- Press the finished panel well.
- Fuse the panel to lightweight interfacing.
- Trim to 18½" x 18½".
Prepare the Zippered Back
Cut two pieces of fabric:
- Piece A: 7" x 18½" (press and hem 1" along one long edge)
- Piece B: 13" x 18½"
Insert the zipper between the two pieces, hiding it under the flap from Piece A.
Trim completed back panel to 18½" x 18½".
Assemble the Cushion
With right sides together, sew front and back panels using a 1/4" seam allowance.
Clip corners, turn right side out, press, and insert an 18" cushion pad.
