Special Abbreviations / Stitches

BO = Bobble (5sts) - (yoh, insert hook in next st, yoh and draw up a loop, yoh and draw through 2 loops on hook) 5 times in same st, yoh and draw through all 6 loops on hook.

Santa Motif

Using 3.50mm hook and C1, make a magic ring.

Face

1st Rnd - 10dc in ring, pm on last st, tighten ring, do not join with a slst, simply continue to work in rounds, by working into top of first st, removing and replacing marker after each rnd.

2nd Rnd - 2dc in each st to end ... 20sts.

3rd Rnd - 1dc in each st to end.

4th Rnd - (2dc in next st, 1dc in next st) times ... 30sts.

5th Rnd - 1dc in each st to end.

6th Rnd - (2dc in next st, 1dc in next 2sts) 10 times ... 40sts.

7th Rnd - 1dc in each st to end.

8th Rnd - (2dc in next st, 1dc in the next 3sts) 10 times ... 50sts.

9th Rnd - (2dc in next st, 1dc in next 4sts) 10 times ... 60sts, fasten off C1.

Hat Trim & Beard

1st Rnd - Using C2, draw up a loop at beg of rnd, 3ch (counts as first st), 1tr in the next 30sts, (1htr in the next st, BO in next st), rep 13 times more ... 14 Bobbles, 1htr in last st, slst in 3rd ch at beg of rnd, TURN.

Cont working in rows.

1st Row - Slst in next 2sts, 2ch (counts as first htr), 1htr in next 26sts, turn.

2nd Row - 2ch (counts as first st), BO in next st, 1htr in next st), rep 12 times more ...13 Bobbles, ending with a htr, turn.

3rd Row - Slst in next 2sts, 2ch (counts as first htr), 1htr in next 24sts, turn.

4th Row - 2ch (counts as first st), (BO in next st, 1htr in next st), rep 11 times more ...12 Bobbles, ending with a htr, fasten off.

Hat

1st Row - Using Sparkle 8ply, miss 4sts along tr sts of 1st Rnd of Hat Trim, draw up a loop, 2ch (counts as first st), 1htr in next 22sts ... 23sts, turn.

Work 2 more rows of htr ... 23sts.

4th Row - 2ch (counts as first st) 1htr in the next 12sts, 1dc in the next st, turn

5th Row - Miss 1st, slst in the next st, 1dc in the next st, 1htr in each st to the end, turn.

6th Row - 2ch (counts as first st), 1htr in the next 7sts, 1dc in the next st, turn

7th Row - Miss 1st, slst in the next st, 1dc in the next st, htr in each st to end, fasten off.

Pom-Pom

Draw up a loop on last row of C2, 2ch, work a 7-stitch bobble as follows - (yoh, insert hook in next st, yoh, draw up a loop, yoh, draw through 2 loops on hook) 7 times in same st, yoh, draw through all 8 loops on hook, 1htr in the next st, fasten off.

Mustache

Using 3.5mm hook and C2, make 15ch.

1st Row - Starting in 2nd ch from hook, work (1dc, 1htr, 3tr, 1htr,1dc) twice ... 14sts, turn.

2nd Row - 1ch, 1dc in each stitch to end, DO NOT TURN.

Continue around Mustache with 2dc into st at each end and 1dc in each st of foundation ch, slst in first st at beg, fasten off.

Tree Motif

Note: Make 8 using various colours in Sparkle Yarn.

1st Row - make 2ch, miss 1ch, 3dc in next ch ... 3sts, turn.

Cont working sts through back loops only for remainder.

2nd Row - 1dc in first st, 3dc in next st, 1dc in last st ... 5sts, turn.

3rd & all odd Rows - 1ch, 1dc in each st, turn.

4th Row - 1dc in first 2sts, 3dc in next st, 1dc in last 2sts ... 7sts, turn.

6th Row - 1dc in first 3sts, 3dc in next st, 1dc in last 3sts ... 9sts, turn.

8th Row - 1dc in first 4sts, 3dc in next st, 1dc in last 4sts ... 11sts, turn.

10th Row - 1dc in first 5sts, 3dc in next st, 1dc in last 5sts ... 13sts, turn.

12th Row - 1dc in first 6sts, 3dc in next st, 1dc in last 6sts ... 15sts, turn.

14th Row - 1dc in first 7sts, 3dc in next st, 1dc in last 7sts ... 17sts, turn.

16th Row - 1dc in first 8sts, 3dc in next st, 1dc in last 8sts ... 19sts, turn.

18th Row - 1dc in first sts, 3dc in next st, 1dc in last 9sts ... 21sts, turn.

19th Row - As 3rd Row, fasten off.

Trunk

Using C2 / C3, miss 8sts, draw up a loop in next st of last row.

1st Row - 3ch (counts as first st), 1htr in the next st, 1dc in next st, 1htr in next st, 1tr in next st, turn.

2nd Row - 2ch (counts as first st), 1htr in each st to end, fasten off.

Finishing

Note: Use a cutting mat or cardboard placed into bag to avoid stitching through both layers.

Sew Mustache to face just below centre. Using matching sewing thread, firmly secure a large pompom in centre for nose. Embroider eyes and mouth. Securely attach four pompoms to each tree.

Position Santa and Tree Motifs as desired on bag, pin in place and sew using matching sewing thread. Sew in all ends.
