  • 8 x hat body pieces from polar fleece- grey
  • 2 x hat band pieces on the fold from polar fleece- grey
  • 2 x face guard pieces on the fold from polar fleece- grey
  • 1 x face guard pieces on the fold from fusible fleece
  • 2 x hat crest pieces from contrast polar fleece-red
  • 1 x hat crest piece from fusible fleece.

Step 2

With wrong sides facing, pin two hat body pieces together. Overlock or sew pieces together to make one piece. Repeat with remaining hat body pieces. You should end up with 4 x double layered body pieces.

Pin two of these double layered body pieces together along one of the sides and sew with a 1 cm seam allowance. Press seam open. Top stitch 5mm either side of seam. Repeat with the remaining two double layered body pieces to make the other half of the hat body.

Step 3

Fuse the corresponding fusible fleece piece to the back of one of the contrast crest pieces. With right sides facing, pin crest pieces together with the fusible fleece side up. With a 1 cm seam allowance, sew crest pieces together along the top long curved and side edges leaving the inner curved edge open.

Trim and clip seams, turn crest right way out, press flat. Overlock or sew inner open edges closed. Top stitch the crest 5 mm in from the outer edges.

Step 4

With the right side facing up of one of the sewn hat body halves, pin the inner curve of the crest to the top curved edge of the body half with the shorter end of the crest starting 2 cm in from one of the side raw edges. Sew in place with a 5 mm seam allowance.

With right sides facing, pin other body side piece on top of the other body side with crest together along upper curved edge. Sew together with a 1 cm seam allowance.

Press seam open and Top stitch the hat 5 mm either side of the center seam.

Step 5

With right sides facing, pin together the center back seam of each of the hat band pieces. Sew together with a 1.5 cm seam allowance. Press seams open. Top stitch 5mm on either side of this seam.

With right sides facing, pin the two hat band pieces together along the base curved edges. Sew with a 1cm seam allowance, leaving the top straight edges open.

Trim and clip seams, turn band right way out, press flat. Overlock or sew the top open edges closed. Top stitch 5mm in around the lower sewn edge.

Step 6

Pin the hat band to the hat body with right sides facing and aligning the center front and center back of band with the hat body seams. Sew together with a 1 cm seam and press open. Top stitch on either side of the seam by 5 mm.

Step 7

Fuse the corresponding fusible fleece piece to the back of one of the face guard pieces. With right sides facing, pin face guard pieces together with the fusible fleece side up. With a 1cm seam allowance, sew face guard pieces together leaving a 7 cm opening along one side.

Trim and clip seams, turn face guard right way out, press flat. Turn in the 1cm seam allowance on the opening and hand sew closed. Press flat.

Step 8

Top stitch face guard 5 mm in from outer edges.

Sew vertical top stitching lines on to face guard, starting with middle front of guard, and repeating lines going outwards with a 3 cm gap in between.

Step 8

Cut Hook and Loop tape into two 2.5 cm lengths. Separate tape and pin the hook sides of the tape to the back of the face guard at the ends as per indicated on the template.

Sew a button to the front side of the face guard, on each side, centered over the tape stitching.

Try helmet on and position the desired placement of the face guard. Mark and pin on the helmet where the loop side of tape will connect with the helmet (approx. near the side hat body seam on the band).

Sew loop side of tape to helmet through all layers.

Vest

Step 1

From the template provided, cut out:

  • 2 x fronts on the fold from polar fleece fabric- grey
  • 1 x front on the fold from fusible fleece
  • 2 x backs on the fold from polar fleece fabric- grey
  • 1 x back on the fold from polar fleece fabric

Cut ribbon into 4 equal 30 cm lengths.

Step 2

Fuse the corresponding fusible fleece pieces to the back of one of the front & back vest pieces.

With fusible fleece sides facing up, pin each ribbon length to the side edges of the front & back vest pieces as per indicated on the template (approx. 15 cm up from the base edge), aligning the raw edges of ribbon with raw side edge. Baste in place.

Step 3

With right sides facing, pin the two front vest pieces together and the two back vest pieces together. With a 15mm seam allowance, sew vest fronts together leaving an 8 cm gap along the center of the base edge for turning out. Repeat with vest back pieces.

Step 4

Trim fusible fleece back to the seam stitching. Layer and clip seam allowance. Turn vest front and back vest pieces right way out. Turn in the 15 mm seam allowance on the base edge opening and hand sew closed. Press flat.

Step 5

Top-stitch front and back vest pieces 5 mm in from the outer edges. Measure & mark the vertical center of the front vest, and top-stitch through all layers from the top neck edge to the base edge. Sew another row of top stitching 5 mm either side of the center stitching. Repeat method to create a horizontal top stitching line, 18 cm up from the base edge. Repeat on the back vest piece.

Step 6

Fuse Vlieosofix to the back of the contrast red polar fleece piece. From the template provided, trace the cross design onto the paper side of Vliesofix. Carefully cut shape out.

Peel off backing paper of cross and place glue side down to the front vest piece, with the cross centered over the intersection of the front topstitching. Fuse cross to vest front. Top stitch cross around all edges to vest front through all layers.

Step 7

Cut Hook and Loop tape into two 4 cm lengths. Separate tape and trim the two loop pieces down to 2.5 cm in size.

Pin each of these loop side pieces to the front side of the front of the vest, in the middle of top shoulder edges as per template. Sew in place through all layers.

Pin the Hook side of the tape, to each to the wrong side of the back of the vest, middle of top shoulder edges as per template. Sew in place through all layers.
