GEM FAIRY WINGS
Level: Intermediate
What you'll need:
- Crafters Choice Rhinestone Purple Opal Mix
- Crafters Choice Faceted Tear Drop & Round Rhinestone Gems
- Crafters Choice Rhinestone Pearl Purple and Gold Mix
- 57 mm x 2.7 m Offray Quest Ribbon Powder Pink
- Vivaldi Blossoms 4 Head Large Pearl With Spray Baby Pink
- Vivaldi Blossoms 11 Pack Paper Butterfly Pink Purple Mix
- Vivaldi Blossoms Daisy With Rhinestone Pack Pink, Coral & Rust
- E6000 Crystal Clear Adhesive
- Premade butterfly wings (E.g. Sparty's Fairy Wings) or make your own using:
- Vivaldi Floral 12-gauge Aluminium Wire
- Nylon Stockings
Instructions
Step 1 - Building Your Base Wings
Create the Base if not using pre made butterfly wings.
Shape: Bend two large loops and two small loops out of 12-gauge wire. Twist the ends together at the centre.
Cover: Stretch nylon stockings or a fine mesh over each wire frame.
Secure: Tie the fabric tight at the centre with a rubber band and wrap the "hub" with tape or felt.
Step 2 - Decorate
Layout: Lay the wings flat. Position your gems, blossoms, and other embellishments to find a design you love.
Glue: Use a strong adhesive like E6000. Apply a small dab to each item and press firmly onto the mesh.
Glitter: Draw thin lines of glue from the centre outward and sprinkle with glitter to create shimmering "veins."
Centre Detail: Cover the messy centre where the wings meet by gluing on a decorative piece, such as a butterfly or making a ribbon bow.
Step 3 - Dry
Dry Time: Allow your wings to sit undisturbed for at least 24 hours. Since E6000 is a heavy-duty adhesive, it needs time to fully cure, so your gems don't budge while you're fluttering about.
That's it - your custom wings are ready to fly!
