Instructions

Reference the downloadable project sheet for project pattern diagrams.

Tip: When cutting Faux fur with a pile, ensure the fur pile is running down top to bottom. Flip faux fur over with the wrong side facing up and only cut the backing fabric by slipping the scissor blades between the fur and backing and snipping carefully.

Animal's Bib

  1. From the template provided, *cut out 1x bib shape from each both Faux fur and satin fabric.
  2. With right sides facing, pin bib pieces together. Sew with a 1 cm seam allowance leaving a 5 cm gap on one side for turning out
Alternatively: Instead of hook and loop tape on bib to secure, ribbon ties could be sewn into bib ends at this step on each of the bib top ends.
  3. Trim & clip curves, turn bib right side out through side opening.
Turn seam allowance of opening to inside and hand sew opening closed.
  4. With a pin or needle, carefully pull out any fur pile that has been caught up in the seam stitching and smooth downwards in the direction of the pile.
With a cool iron and pressing cloth, press bib flat from the satin side.
  5. Pin hook and loop tape with one piece on the top fur side of one of the bib top ends and the other on the satin side of the other bib top end as per indicated on the template.

Animal's Wristlets & Anklets

  1. From Faux fur *cut out:
    - 2 pieces each measuring 35 cm wide by 17 cm high for Wristlets
    - 2 pieces each measuring 42 cm wide by 23 cm high for Anklets
  2. Overlock all edges of Faux fur pieces.
With right sides facing, pin the two shorter ends together of each piece making a cuff shape. Sew together with a 1 cm seam allowance. Finger press seam open.
Fold up a 1 cm hem along the base of each cuff. Sew in place.
  3. Cut elastic into:
    - 2 pieces measuring 18 cm long for Wristlets (adjust length to suit individual child)
    - 2 pieces measuring 24 cm long for Anklets (adjust length to suit individual child)
    - Pin elastic into loops by overlapping the ends by 15mm, and stitching together securely.
  4. Pin the base edge of each of the elastic loops over the top of the overlocked top edge of each cuff, stretching elastic to fit the cuff's top edge. Stitch elastic in place to cuff.
With a pin or needle, carefully pull out any fur pile that has been caught up in the seam stitching and smooth downwards in the direction of the pile.

Animal's Tail

  1. From the template provided, *cut 2 tail pieces from faux fur fabric.
  2. With right sides facing, pin the two tail pieces together.
With a 1 cm seam allowance, sew tail together leaving the top short ends open. Clip curves and turn tail right way out.
With a pin or needle, carefully pull out any fur pile that has been caught up in the seam stitching and smooth downwards in the direction of the pile.
Fold in 1.5 cm seam allowance on the top opening of tail. Pin ends together.
  3. Fold in a 1.5 cm hem on the top opening edges of tail. Sew hem in place 1 cm in from folded edges.
Cut elastic into 2 equal lengths. Pin one end of the elastic lengths to each of the inside of hemmed edge of tail in the middle as per indicated on the template. Sew in place over hem stitching.
  4. Fill tail with Hobby Fill to desired fullness, leaving the top 5 cm of tail lightly filled to allow room to sew tail closed. Machine or hand sew tail opening closed.
  5. Fold under 1 cm on one of the raw ends of elastic, sew in place. Pin one side of the hook and loop tape over the hem in the middle of the elastic. Top stitch to elastic to secure.
Repeat on the other elastic piece with the tape sewn on to the opposite side of elastic.
