Fabric Fish Soft Toy
Cutting
For each fish, cut:
- 1 rectangle from print fabric
- 1 square from solid fabric
Pieces should be large enough to accommodate the fish template with seam allowance.
Assembly
Step 1: Prepare Panels
For each fish, make two fabric panels as follows:
- Place one print rectangle and one solid square right sides together, aligning one edge.
- Sew along the aligned edge to join the two pieces.
- Press the seam open or toward the print fabric.
Repeat to create two identical joined panels.
Step 2: Trace Template
- Place the two panels right sides together.
- On the wrong side of one panel, position the fish template so the head falls on the solid fabric and the body on the print fabric.
- Trace around the template.
- Mark a 4-5 cm opening along the bottom edge for turning.
Step 3: Sew Fish
- Sew directly on the traced line, leaving the marked opening unstitched.
- Backstitch at the start and end of the opening.
Step 4: Trim and Turn
- Trim excess fabric close to the stitching line using pinking shears, taking care not to cut into the seam.
- Turn the fish right side out.
- Gently push out curves.
Step 5: Stuff and Close
- Lightly stuff the fish with polyester toy filling until evenly filled.
- Fold raw edges of the opening inward.
- Hand stitch closed using a ladder stitch.
