Instructions

Note: Beanie worked in a spiral, from the centre of the crown, with each colour used for part of each round. Be sure to rotate work backwards at the end of every round to avoid yarn tangles!

UK Crochet Terms

Beg Crown -

Using 4mm hook and C1, make a magic ring.

1st Rnd - 1ch, (1dc, 1htr, 2tr) into ring, remove hook and use st marker in loop to secure st, using C2, *slst into ring, 1ch, (1dc, 1htr, 2tr) into ring, remove hook and use st marker in loop to secure st **, using C3, rep from * to **... 12sts (4sts of each colour).

2nd Rnd - Insert hook into loop of C1 and remove st marker, 2tr in each of 4sts of C2, remove hook and use st marker in loop, insert hook in loop of C2, 2tr in each of 4 sts of C3, remove hook and use st marker in loop, insert hook in loop of C3, 2tr in each of 4 sts of C1, remove hook and use st marker in loop ... 24 sts (8sts of each colour).

From this point onwards, use a st marker in first st of C1 to keep track of where each rnd ends and continue using st markers in dropped loops of each colour.

3rd Rnd - Using C1, * 1tr in next st, 2tr in next st, rep from * to last st of C2 of prev rnd, using C2, rep as C1 to last st of C3 of prev rnd, using C3, rep as C1 to last st before st marker of C1 ... 36sts (12sts of each colour).

4th Rnd - Using C1, * 1tr in each of next 2sts, 2tr in next st, rep from * to last st of C2 of prev rnd, using C2, rep as C1 to last st of C3 of prev rnd, using C3, rep as C1 to last st before st marker of C1 ... 48sts (16sts of each colour).

5th Rnd - Using C1, * 1tr in each of next 3sts, 2tr in next st, rep from * to last st of C2 of prev rnd, using C2, rep as C1 to last st of C3 of prev rnd, using C3, rep as C1 to last st before st marker of C1 ... 60sts (20sts of each colour).

6th Rnd - Using C1, * 1tr in each of next 4sts, 2tr in next st, rep from * to last st of C2 of prev rnd, using C2, rep as C1 to last st of C3 of prev rnd, using C3, rep as C1 to last st before st marker of C1 ... 72sts (24sts of each colour).

7th Rnd - Using C1, * 1tr in each of next 5sts, 2tr in next st, rep from * to last st of C2 of prev rnd, using C2, rep as C1 to last st of C3 of prev rnd, using C3, rep as C1 to last st before st marker of C1 ... 84sts (28sts of each colour).

8th Rnd - Using C1, * 1tr in each of next 6sts, 2tr in next st, rep from * to last st of C2 of prev rnd, using C2, rep as C1 to last st of C3 of prev rnd, using C3, rep as C1 to last st before st marker of C1 ... 96sts (32sts of each colour).

9th Rnd - Using C1, 1tr in each st to last st of C2 of prev rnd, using C2, rep as C1 to last st of C3 of prev rnd, using C3, rep as C1 to last st before st marker of C1.

9th Rnd forms patt. Cont in patt until work measures approx 26cm from top of Crown.

Beg Band -

1st Rnd - Using C1, 1htr in next st, 1dc in next and each st to last st of C2 of prev rnd, using C2, rep as C1 to last st of C3 of prev rnd, using C3, rep as C1 to last st before st marker of C1.

2nd Rnd - Using C1, 1dc in each st to last st of C2 of prev rnd, using C2, rep as C1 to last st of C3 of prev rnd, using C3, rep as C1 to last st before st marker of C1.

2nd Rnd forms Band patt. Cont in patt until Band measures approx 3cm, ending each colour off with a slst in next st.

Fasten off all colours.
