Back

Using 6mm needles and M, cast on 73 (79-87-93-101) sts.

Beg Lower Band -

1st row - K2, * P1, K1, rep from * to last st, K1.

2nd row - K1, * P1, K1, rep from * to end.

Last 2 rows form rib.

Cont in rib until work measures 6cm from beg, ending with a 2nd row.

Change to 7mm needles.

Beg First Patt -

Note - Do not weave colours in Fair Isle patt but carry colour not in use loosely across on WS of work.

It is important however, that no colour should be carried across more than 7 sts and where this is necessary it should be woven under and over colour in use at centre st. Always carry colours to end of rows and catch in at side edges. Always carry MC above C1.

1st row (RS) - K1C, * K1M, K1C, rep from * to end.

2nd row - P1M, * P1C, P1M, rep from * to end.

Using , work in stocking st until work measures 25cm from beg, ending with a purl row.

Change to 8mm needles.

Beg Second Patt -

Work rows 1 to 23 incl from Graph A.

Change to 7mm needles.

Using MC only for rem, Next row (WS) - Purl.

Shape Armholes -

Working in stocking st for rem, cast off 5 (6-7-8-9) sts at beg of next 2 rows ... 63 (67-73-77-83) sts.

Dec one st at each end of every row until 57 (61-67-71-73) sts rem, then in every foll alt row until 53 (55-59-63-65) sts rem.

Cont without shaping until armholes measure 13.5 (13.5-14.5-14.5-15.5) cm, ending with a purl row. **

Work 16 (18-18-20-20) rows stocking st.

Shape Shoulders -

Cast off 6 (6-6-7-7) sts loosely at beg of next 4 rows, then 5 (5-6-6-6) sts loosely at beg of foll 2 rows.

Leave rem 19 (21-23-23-25) sts on a stitch-holder for Collar.

Front

Work as for Back to **.

Shape Neck -

1st row (RS) - K21 (21-22-24-25), turn.

Cont on these 21 (21-22-24-25) sts for left side of neck.

*** Dec one st at neck edge in every foll alt row until 19 (19-20-22-23) sts rem, then in every foll 4th row until 17 (17-18-20-20) sts rem.

Work 3 (5-5-7-3) rows.

Shape Shoulder -

Cast off 6 (6-6-7-7) sts loosely at beg of next row, then in foll alt row.

Work 1 row.

Cast off rem 5 (5-6-6-6) sts loosely. ***

Slip next 11 (13-15-15-15) sts onto stitch-holder and leave for Collar.

With RS facing, join yarn to rem sts, knit to end.

Cont on these 21 (21-22-24-25) sts for right side of neck.

Rep from *** to ***, working 1 more row before shoulder shaping.

Sleeves

Using 6mm needles and M, cast on 31 (33-33-35-35) sts.

Beg Cuff -

Work in rib as for lower band of Back, until work measures 6cm from beg, ending with a 2nd row.

Change to 7mm needles.

Beg First Patt -

1st row (RS) - K1C, * K1M, K1C, rep from * to end.

2nd row - P1M, * P1C, P1M, rep from * to end.

Using MC and working in stocking st, inc one st at each end of next row, then in every foll 8th (6th-4th-4th-alt) row until there are 41 (39-37-51-41) sts, then in every foll 10th (8th-6th-6th-4th) row until there are 45 (49-53-59-65) sts.

Next row (WS) Purl.

Change to 8mm Needles.

Beg Second Patt -

Work rows 1 to 23 incl from Graph B.

Change to 7mm needles.

Using MC only for rem, Next row - Purl.

Shape Top -

Working in stocking st for rem, cast of 3 (3-4-4-5) sts loosely at beg of next 2 rows ... 39 (43-45-51-55) sts.

Dec one st at each end of next row, then in every foll alt row until 9 (11-15-23-27) sts rem, then in every row until 7 (9-9-9-9) sts rem.

Cast off rem sts loosely.

Collar

Using mattress st and matching plain yarn, join right shoulder seam. With RS facing, using 6mm needles and MC, knit up 16 (18-18-20-20) sts evenly along left side of neck, knit across 11 (13-15-15-15) sts from front stitch-holder, knit up 16 (18-18-20-20) sts evenly along right side of neck, then knit across 19 (21-23-23-25) sts from back stitch-holder - inc one st in centre ... 63 (71-75-79-81) sts.

Work in rib as for lower band of Back beg with a 2nd row, until neckband measures 12cm beg and ending with a 2nd row.

Cast off loosely in rib.

Finishing

DO NOT PRESS. Using mattress st and matching plain yarn, join left shoulder and Collar seam, reversing seam on Collar for last 7cm. Sew in sleeves. Join side and sleeve seams, matching patt and reversing seam on cuff (if desired). Turn Collar to RS. Fold cuffs to RS (if desired).

Block to shape if required.
