Spider

Step 1

Using template provided, cut 2 x circles body from both purple fur and purple felt. With the pile of the fur running downwards and right way up, pin the fur onto the felt circles. Pushing the fur pile towards the middle of the circle, sew the fur to the felt, 3-5mm in from edges.

Step 2 - Face

Using template provided, each of the eye shapes, nose, mouth and teeth shapes on to the paper side of the Vliesofix bonding paper. Cut out each shape with 5-10mm excess around each of the shapes.

Fuse the each of the face shapes to the back of the corresponding felt pieces. Cut each shape out with sharp scissors.

Remove backing paper from shapes. With the glue sides facing down, layer the eyes and mouth as per template, or as preferred. Fuse together with an iron and pressing cloth.

Edge stitch around the edges of the teeth, and eye balls, 3mm in from the outer edges.

Pushing the fur pile outwards, pin face shapes to one of the fur circles as per template or as preferred. Top stitch face shapes to fur circle 3mm in from all outer edges.

Step 3 - Back (optional)

Add felt circles in varying colours and sizes to the back fur circle as per desired, in the same manner as the face.

Step 4 - Legs

Using the template provided, cut out 16 leg shapes from purple felt and 8 leg shapes from iron-on wadding. Trim 5mm from around all outer edges of the iron-on wadding leg pieces.

Place the wadding pieces, glue side down, centred on top of the wrong side of half of the leg felt pieces. Using a pressing cloth, fuse wadding to felt with an iron and pressing cloth.

With wrong sides facing, pin the remaining felt leg pieces on top of the wadding, aligning all edges. Top stitch felt legs together 5mm in from all outer edges.

Pin the end of the legs to the underside edges of the face fur piece, and arrange as per desired. Pin the place and then stitch to face along the sides over the side edge stitching.

The spider can be made as a separate piece and attached to an existing t-shirt or top if preferred instead of making a vest smock.

Press seam open also pressing under the seam allowance above top of the mark. Top stitch 5mm out from either side of center back seam, together with hemming the seam allowance of the opening.

Cut 2 x 25cm lengths of ribbon. Pin one ribbon to each inside of hemmed opening at the top neckline edge. Sew in place over hem stitching.

Step 3

With right sides facing, pin the front and back smock pieces together along the two shoulder edges. With a 1cm seam allowance, sew edges together. Press seam open, top stitch seam allowance.
