Step 1
Using glue to secure, tightly wrap the headband with grosgrain ribbon until completely covered.
Step 2
From the template provided, cut out 4x leaves from felt - Emerald green.
Layer two leaves together, pin, then top stitch together, 3mm in from outer edges. As per template, sew lines on the leaves through middle of each section.
Step 3
Twirl the chenille stick around finger to create the spiral effect. Adjust to desired look.
Using glue to secure, tightly roll brown felt piece along the width of felt piece to create stem.
Step 4
Using glue, attach leaves, chenille sticks & stem to the top of covered headband as per desired layout.
Pumpkin
Step 1
From the template provided, cut out 2x body pieces from orange felt.
Step 2
Pin and stitch the darts at the top neckline in both the front & back body pieces. Trim dart seams to 5mm.
On the right side of each body piece, stitch down from the bottom of each dart to the base of front and back of the body as per indicated on the template.
Step 3
Using the face template provided, trace the pumpkin face to the paper side of the bonding paper.
Fuse the bonding paper to the back of the black felt. Cut out pumpkin face shapes.
Peel off paper backing from shapes, and place pumpkin face with glue side down onto the front of one of the pumpkin body pieces as per template
Using a pressing cloth, iron to fuse face to felt body.
Top stitch round all of the face shapes 3mm in from the outer edges.
Step 4
With right side facing, place the two body shapes together aligning side edges. Pin and then sew the side seams of the body with a 1cm seam allowance.
Sew the top of the arm holes from the top edge to the indicated mark on the template.
Press seams open using a pressing cloth.
Step 5
Make a loop with the 12mm wide elastic and pin ends together overlapping by 2cm. Check to see if this loop goes over the head of the child comfortably. This will be the top neckline of pumpkin body. Adjust to fit as desired.
Sew overlapping ends together.
Mark the elastic loop into quarters with a pin. Mark the top neckline raw edge of the pumpkin body into quarters with a pin. Pin the elastic to the inside of the top edge of the pumpkin body, aligning the top edge of elastic with raw edge of felt and matching the quarter pins.
Sew or overlock the edge of the elastic to neckline felt edge, stretching elastic to fit to the quarter pins.
Fold down and roll the elastic up inside the body, and pin the elastic through all layers at the neck side seams and at each of the darts. Tack elastic in place with a few stitches along the seams and dart stitching lines.
Step 6
Make a loop with the 32mm wide elastic and pin ends together overlapping by 2cm. Check to see if this loop sits over or below the child's hips comfortably. This will be the base of the pumpkin body. Adjust to fit as desired.
Sew overlapping ends together.
Mark the elastic loop into quarters with a pin. Mark the base raw edge of the pumpkin body into quarters with a pin. Pin the elastic to the inside of the base edge of the pumpkin body, aligning the top edge of elastic with raw edge of felt and matching the quarter pins.
Sew or overlock the edge of the elastic to base felt edge, stretching elastic to fit to the quarter pins.
