Halloween Placemats
Cutting
- Using the template provided, cut 2 from the main fabric.
- Using the template provided, cut 1 from iron-on fleece.
- Following the manufacturer's instructions, fuse the iron-on fleece to the wrong side of the placemat front.
- Place the placemat front and back right sides together.
- Pin or clip around the edge, leaving an opening for turning.
- Stitch around the placemat using a 1 cm seam allowance.
- Trim the seam allowance and clip the curves where required, taking care not to cut through the stitching.
- Turn the placemat right side out through the opening and gently shape the curves.
- Press well, turning the seam allowance at the opening to the inside.
- Stitch close to the edge around the entire placemat, closing the turning opening as you sew.
- Measure 2.5 cm in from the edge at regular points around the placemat and mark as a guide.
- Use small amounts of fabric glue to position the first ric-rac trim along the marked guide line.
- Stitch the first ric-rac trim in place through all layers.
- Position the second ric-rac trim directly beside the first ric-rac trim and glue lightly to hold in place.
- Stitch the second ric-rac trim in place through all layers.
- Press if required.
Halloween Napkins
Cutting
- Cut 1 x 20" square for each napkin.
- Press all four edges to the wrong side by 1".
- Unfold the pressed edges. At each corner, fold the fabric right sides together and align the pressed fold lines. Stitch diagonally from the point where the fold lines intersect to the corner.
- Trim the seam allowance and trim the corner to reduce bulk.
- Turn each corner right side out and use a point turner to gently push out the corners.
- Refold the pressed 1" hems on all four sides, enclosing the raw edges within the mitred corners. Press well.
- Topstitch close to the inner folded edge around the entire napkin, backstitching at the beginning and end.
- Give the finished napkin a final press.
