Special Abbreviations / Stitches

dc2tog - double crochet 2sts tog = draw up a loop in each of the next 2sts, yoh, draw through all sts on hook.

Santa Upper Body

Using 3.50mm hook and MC, make 98ch, join with a slst in first chain to form a ring, ensuring not to twist.

1st Rnd - 1ch, 1dc in first ch, 1htr in each st to end, DO NOT join with a slst and continue by working in continuous rnds.

Work 11 more rnds, 1htr in each st, ending above start of first rnd, DO NOT fasten off.

Right Arm

1st Rnd - 1htr in the next 13sts, counting back from the first st, count 12sts, work 1htr in last st counted, then 1htr in rem 11sts ... 25sts for arm.

Working only on these 25sts, work a further 13 rnds, fasten off.

Left Arm

Skip next 24sts on shoulder, rejoin yarn by drawing up a loop in next st.

1st Rnd - 1ch, 1dc in same st, 1htr in next 24sts ... 25sts.

Working in continuous rnds, work a further 13 rnds of htr, fasten off.

Right Mitten

Using 3.50mm hook and C1, draw up a loop at the centre inside st of right arm.

1st Rnd - 1ch, 1dc in same st, 1dc in the next 24sts.

Working in continuous rnds, work a further 11 rnds, ending on last st above beg of rnd.*

Shaping -

1st Rnd - dc2tog, 1dc in next 8sts, (dc2tog) twice, 1dc in next 9sts, dc2tog ... 21sts.

2nd Rnd - dc2tog, 1dc in next 7sts, dc2tog, 1dc in next 10sts ... 19sts.

3rd Rnd - dc2tog, 1dc in next 6sts, dc2tog, 1dc in next 9sts ... 17sts.

Nose

Using 3.50mm hook and C4, make a Magic Ring.

1st Rnd - 6dc in ring, pm on last st, removing and replacing after each rnd.

2nd Rnd - 2dc in next 6sts ... 12sts.

3rd Rnd - (2dc in next st, 1dc in next st) 6 times ... 18sts.

4th Rnd - 1c in each st ... 18sts.

5th Rnd - (2 dc in next st, 1dc in next 2sts) 6 times ... 24sts.

6th Rnd - 1dc in each st ... 24 sts.

7th Rnd - (2dc in next st, 1dc in next 3sts) 6 times ... 30sts.

8th - 10th Rnd - 1 dc in each st ... 30sts.

11th Rnd - (dc2tog, 1dc in next 3sts) 6 times ... 24sts.

12th Rnd - (dc2tog, 1dc in next 2sts) 6 times ... 18sts.

Heart Motif (make 12 in each colour, C2 & C3)

Using 3.50mm hook, make 8ch.

Centre Square -

1st Row - miss 1ch, 1dc in each ch to end ... 7sts, turn.

2nd Row - 1ch, 1dc in each st to end, turn.

Rep 2nd Row 7 times more ... 9 rows in total, turn.

Cont working in rounds.

Shaping -

1st Rnd - 1ch, miss 3sts, 11tr in next st, miss 3sts, slst in turning ch, miss 4 rows, 11tr in side of next row, miss 4 rows, slst in turning ch, 6dc to next corner, (1dc, 1ch, 1dc) in corner st, make 6dc up on next side of centre square, slst into ch at beg of rnd, DO NOT turn.

Picot Edging -

Next Row - (3ch, slst in next st) 10 times, slst in next st, (3ch, slst in next st) 10 times, fasten off.

Assembling

Top -

Join opening at end of Mittens using an invisible st, while placing small amount of stuffing in Mittens, stitch a line to form thumb. Wrap around dowel and sew in place. Position Beard centred along shoulder line, stitch in place while stuffing before last section closed. Sew shoulder opening using an invisible stitch. Position Hat on shoulders and sew in place. Sew point of Hat to dowel to sit flat against the top. Stuff Nose and sew in place.

The Rod can be removed to continue to sew and re-inserted when complete. Place Body approx 2cm in over felt and stitch in place, by hand or machine.

Bottom -

Sew crutch opening using an invisible stitch. Join opening at top of Boots using an invisible stitch, while stuffing with Fibre Fill. Place Body approx 2cm in over felt and stitch in place, by hand or machine.

Finishing

Position Hearts in 3 even columns and 8 rows as per image. Sew in place by hand or machine using sewing thread. Weave in all loose ends. Glue foam stars on Hearts. Using metallic pen, write numbers 1 - 24 on each star. Scatter and add small heart stickers.
