Instructions
Reference the downloadable project sheet for project pattern diagrams.
Note: This template has been scaled. You will need to print this template at actual size and blow it up by 220% to make it full size.
Step 1
From the template provided, cut:
- 2x outer stockings from Grinch printed cotton fabric
- 2x lining stockings from lining fabric (Prima Homespun or printed cotton fabric)
- 2x stockings from Iron-On wadding
- 1x cuff from Grinch printed cotton fabric
Step 2
Trim 5mm from around all outer edges of the iron-on wadding stocking pieces.
Lay outer stocking pieces right side facing down. Place the wadding pieces, glue side down, centred on top of the wrong side of the outer stockings. Using a pressing cloth, fuse wadding to outer fabric with an iron.
With right sides facing, pin outer stocking pieces together aligning all edges. Sew the sides together with a 5mm seam allowance, leaving the top edges open.
Clip curved seam allowance. Turn outer stocking right way out, press flat.
Step 3
Sew the stocking lining in the same manner as the outer stocking, omitting the wadding, and leaving a 10cm gap in the stitching on one of the long sides for turning out. Leave wrong way out.
Step 4
Pin the Santa fur trim to the right side of the cuff fabric, aligning one of the long edges of trim with the middle fold line across the width of the cuff. Pushing the fur pile towards the middle of the trim, sew the trim to cuff fabric, 3-5mm in from both long edges of trim.
Make a loop with the ribbon and pin raw ends of loop to one of the side edges of the cuff that is on the half with the fur trim, 1cm in from the long raw edge. Sew in place.
Step 5
With right side facing, bring the side edges of the cuff together and sew with a 5mm seam allowance. Fold cuff on the fold line with wrong sides together on the inside. Baste raw edges together.
With the fur side of the cuff facing outwards, place cuff over the top of the outer stocking, aligning side seams and upper raw edges. Baste in place.
Step 6
Place the outer stocking with cuff inside the lining stocking, with right sides facing together. Pin the upper raw edges together and sew together through all layers with a 1cm seam allowance.
Pull the lining upwards, and under stitch the top edge seam onto the lining side 5mm in from the seam.
Close the opening in the side of the lining by either machine stitching seam allowance together, or hand sew closed to secure. Place the lining inside the outer stocking and press flat with a pressing cloth.
