FOLKART ETCHING CREAM XMAS GLASSES
Level: Beginner
What you'll need:
- Glasses (we have used a wine glass)
- Stencil template
- Folkart etching cream
- Paint brush
- Gloves
- Tape (depending on template creation)
- Tablecloth
Instructions
Reference the downloadable project sheet for project pattern diagrams.
Note: Scale template depending on the size of the glass.
- Prep the surface with a tablecloth or similar covering. Wash the glass with warm soapy water. Allow to dry completely before starting project.
- To prepare your template you can print the template on adhesive vinyl or print or draw your design and transfer it to a similar material.
- If you are using an adhesive template, carefully position and apply it directly onto the glass. If your template is not adhesive, secure it firmly with tape around the edges to prevent it from moving. Ensure the template is firmly adhered to the glass, paying particular attention to the edges and small details. We recommend using a card or similar flat tool to smooth out any bubbles and ensure all corners and edges are firmly stuck down. Any areas of the template that are not securely adhered may allow the etching cream to bleed underneath and affect your design.
- Put on protective gloves before handling the etching cream to avoid direct contact with your skin. Using a brush, apply a thick, even layer of etching cream over the stencil, ensuring that all exposed areas of your design are completely covered. The cream may appear dark and thick, which is normal. Make sure the entire design is evenly covered and leave the cream to sit for approximately 15 minutes.
- After 15 minutes, remove the stencil or tape to reveal the etched design. Dry the surface completely. The design is now permanent and dishwasher safe.
