FELT CHRISTMAS ELF T-SHIRTS
Level: Beginner
What You'll Need:
- Plain T-shirt
- Felt Fabric:
- White: 0.15m of 90cm wide
- Black: 0.05m of 90cm wide
- Scraps of Yellow Felt Fabric
- *0.3m to .5m of 30cm wide Vliesofix Iron-On Bonding Web
- Gutermann Sewing threads in matching colours
- Plain paper or calico fabric
- Sewing machine
- Scissors, Pins, Iron & pressing cloth, Tape measure/ruler, pencil
*Amount needed will be determined by how wide the t-shirt is at the base.
Instructions
Neck collar
From the templates provided, cut out the neck collar shape from paper or calico fabric.
Place shape around neckline of t-shirt and adjust the size of the shape to suit and fit around the neckline under the rib trim.
Trace this new template on to the paper side of the Vliesofix paper. Cut out roughly about 1cm bigger than the shape outline.
With an iron and pressing cloth, fuse the glue side down of the shape onto the back of the white felt fabric. Cut out collar shape from felt along the outline.
Peel off the backing paper from back of felt collar, and with this glue side facing down, place on to the t-shirt front in position around neckline.
With an iron and pressing cloth, fuse collar in place on to t-shirt.
Top stitch around collar with matching sewing thread 3mm in from the collar edge.
Buttons
Trace template or draw three 32mm circles on to the paper side of the Vliesofix paper. Cut out roughly about 1cm bigger than the shape outline.
As per the neck collar method, fuse to back of yellow felt scraps, cut out and fuse to t-shirt in desired position, finishing with top stitching in place.
Belt & Buckle
For the belt, cut out a 4cm high strip to the width of your t-shirt from side to side. Cut out a strip of Vliesofix to the same measurement.
Fuse Vliesofix to the back of the felt belt. Fuse belt to t-shirt. Top stitch to secure.
Trace the buckle shape onto Vliesofix, roughly cut out around outline and fuse to back of yellow felt scrap. Cut out buckle outline, peel off paper and fuse to t-shirt on top of the belt in the middle.
Base trim
Measure across the base of the t-shirt just above the hem stitching. Cut out a piece of paper or calico to this width by 8cm high to make into a template.
Draw then cut out your desired pointed design to fit along the height and width of the paper/calico.
Trace this template on to the back of Vliesofix, and roughly cut out. Fuse to the back of white felt, cut out along template and fuse to base of the t-shirt just above the hem stitching. Top stitch around felt base trim.
