WOF: Width of Fabric
All seams are 1/4" unless otherwise stated
100% cotton fabric is used throughout
Note: This template has been scaled. You will need to print this template at actual size and blow it up by 235% to make it full size.
Step 1 - Preparation and cutting
Using the template for the blades cut as follows, laying the blade down the length of the fabric.
- 2 Large Santa
- 2 Small Santa
- 2 Bells
- 2 Presents
- 2 Snowflake Trees
- 5 Dark Green Solid
- 4 Burgundy Solid
Step 2 - Putting It All Together
Arrange the blades in desired order and decide on the placement of the opening. Stitch the blades together along the long edges. Don't forget to alternate the solid fabric between the print blades. Press seams open when you have stitched all the blades together.
Cut the backing fabric and the wadding into a 60" square. Layer the backing fabric, wadding and the Dresden skirt top together and pin generously, ready for quilting.
Quilt each blade, about 1/4" either side of the seam lines. Then stitch around the whole outer edge of the tree skirt to hold it all together. Trim away the excess backing and wadding fabric from the outside edges, down each side of the opening and around the top opening.
Taking the bias binding, stitch this to the back of the skirt on the outside edge, starting at the top of the opening, moving all the way around the scallops and finishing at the other opening edge. Turn the bias to the right side and stitch to the front of the skirt. Next, stitch the bias around the centre top opening edge, leaving about a 25cm length on each end, to use as the ties.
Give your tree skirt a good press and it is ready to use.
