Instructions
Ribbon Loops Tree
- Cut ribbon into 10cm lengths.
- Fold a ribbon length in half to make a loop. Starting at the base of the foam cone, place the ribbon with the folded end at the base of the cone. Push a couple of pins through the top raw ends of the ribbon loop into the cone to secure. Ensure the pins are going down into the cone body on a slight angle so they anchor the ribbon to cone.
- Continue to attach the ribbon loops going around the cone's base edge. You may have to adjust the overlap of the loops to give an even spaced look.
- Repeat method by attaching the next layer of ribbon loops, ensuring the folded edge of the next layer covers up the pins of the previous layer. Pin the back of ribbon on either side to cone just above the loop to secure.
- Repeat layers up to cover the whole cone as desired.
- Optional: Add a bow in a smaller ribbon to embellish the top of cone tree.
Ribbon Bows Tree
- Starting with the widest and/or plainest of the ribbons, cut and tie small bows.
- Spacing the bows evenly, pin the bows to cone by anchoring with at least 2 pins at different angles, pushing through the back of the centre knot.
- Repeat with remaining ribbons, working from the widest to narrowest, until the whole cone is covered and achieving your desired look.
Gathered Ribbon Tree
- Remove ribbon from roll. Starting at one end, find the wire on one of the edges of the ribbon and start to pull the wire to gather the ribbon.
- Rim away the excess wire, leaving a short length of wire next to the ribbon. Fold and twist that wire around so it does not come undone and undo the gathers.
- Anchor the start of the gathered ribbon to the base of foam cone by with at least 2 pins at different angles. Slowly wrap the ribbon around the base of the base, pinning the ribbon every few centimetres to secure. Once the raw edge of the start of the ribbon is covered, start to angle ribbon upwards to wrap around the next layer of gathers, ensuring the top edge of the previous layer is covered.
- Once cone is wrapped with ribbon as per desired, trim away any excess ribbon, and tuck and fold in any raw edges under and pin to cone.
- Cut a 12cm length from the excess ribbon and excess wire. Gather the ribbon through the middle and twist the wire around middle, gather to secure. Shape ribbon into bow shape.
- Secure bow to the top of cone using the wire used to secure bow together with pins, angling downwards into cone.
Spiral Tree
- Starting from the top of the foam cone, wrap the end of the ribbon around the top of the cone, with the ribbon extending a bit over the top. Push a couple of pins through ends of the ribbon into the cone to secure. Ensure the pins are going down into the cone body on a slight angle so they do not stick out of the other side.
- Continue to wrap the cone downwards, spiralling the ribbon and securing with pins on a downwards angle every few centimetres. Ensure the ribbon overlaps the layer before it so no foam is being shown.
- Once at the base of the cone, ensure cone is fully covered and desired look is achieved. Cut the ribbon, fold under the raw end and pin securely to the cone with the pins angling up and into the cone.
