CHRISTMAS OSNABURG PET BED

Instructions

Note: All seam allowances are 1.5cm unless stated.

Step 1

From Osnaburg fabric cut:

• 1x 60cm square piece
• 2x 30cm wide by 56cm high pieces
• 4 x 66cm wide by 16cm high strips

Step 2

Top: Layer fabrics by placing the Osnaburg square right side down, then polyester wadding, then calico fabric on top with right side up. Pin all layers together.

With washable pencil/marker and a ruler, draw lines on calico fabric at a 45-degree angle with lines 6cm apart.

Quilt fabrics together by sewing along the marked lines through all layers.

Trim quilted piece down to a 56cm square. Baste around all outer edges.

Step 3

Sides: Pin all the fabric strips together at the short ends to make a continuous loop.

Sew together starting and ending the stitching 1.5cm away from the top and base raw edges. Press seams open.

With right sides facing, pin the top edges of the fabric strip loop to the sides of the quilted top square, aligning the seams in the loop to the corners of the quilted top square.

Sew together, pivoting the stitching at the corners.

Step 4

Base: With right sides facing, pin the two 30 x 56cm pieces together along one of the longer sides. Sew together leaving a 30cm gap in the middle of the seam. Press seam open.

Optional: If desired, sew a zipper into the opening in the seam if preferred to hand sewing opening closed.

With right sides facing, pin the base edges of the fabric strip loop to the sides of the base fabric, aligning the seams in the loop with the corners of the base.

Sew together pivoting stitching at the corners.

Step 5

Clip corners and turn pet bed cover right way out through the opening. Press cover along all seams.

Stuff the bed cover with Hobby fill to desired fullness (Optional: insert 60cm square cushion insert).

Hand sew opening closed (Optional: close zipper, tucking the head of the zipper into the zip end seam).
