Using C1, work in stocking st (beg with a knit row), inc one st at each end of 3rd row, then in every foll 6th row until there are 40 (46-48-54) sts.

Cont without shaping until work measures 25 (29-30-31) cm from beg, ending with a knit row.

Cast off loosely.

Neckband

Using mattress st, join shoulder seams. With RS facing, using 4.50mm needles and M, knit up 19 (22-23-24) sts evenly along right front neck, knit across sts from back stitch-holder, then knit up 19 (22-23-24) sts evenly along left front neck ... 60 (68-72-76) sts.

1st row (WS) - P3, * K2, P2, rep from * to last st, P1.

2nd row - K3, * P2, K2, rep from * to last st, K1.

Rep 1st and 2nd rows until neckband measures 3cm, ending with a 1st row.

Cast off.

Front Bands

Left Front Band - With RS facing, using 4.50mm needles and M, knit up 88 (96-108-112) sts evenly along left front edge and side edge of neckband.

Work 3cm in rib as for neckband, beg and ending with a 1st row.

Cast off.

Place markers for 5 (6-6-7) buttons evenly along Left Front Band, placing 1st marker 3cm from lower edge, last marker in centre of neckband and remaining markers evenly spaced in between.

Right Front Band - Work to correspond with Left Front Band, working buttonholes in centre of band and level with each marker as follows - Yarn over needle to make a stitch, rib 2tog.

Finishing

DO NOT PRESS. Sew in sleeves evenly between coloured threads, placing centre of sleeve to shoulder seams. Join side and sleeve seams. Sew on buttons.
