MARVEL 8PLY ANIMAL BLANKETS

WHAT YOU'LL NEED:

• '4 Seasons' Marvel 8 Ply 100g:-
  • Bear - 1 x ball each of 2 Colours (aqua for Blanket and brown for Toy)
  • Rabbit - 1 x ball of 1 Colour (white for both Blanket and Toy)
  • Elephant - 1 x ball of 2 Colours (grey for Blanket and grey and cream for Toy)
  • Monkey - 1 x ball of 3 Colours (lime for Blanket and brown and cream for Toy)
  • Small quantity of black yarn for embroidery of facial features, small quantity of pink yarn for embroidery of facial features of Rabbit

• A pair each 3mm and 4mm knitting needles or size needed for correct tension.
• Hobby Fill
• Scissors, yarn needle, tape measure

MEASUREMENT

Blanket (approx) cm: 35 x 35

TENSION

22 sts and 34 rows to 10 cm over patt for Blanket, using 4mm needles.

INSTRUCTIONS

SPECIAL ABBREVIATION

M1 = make one st by picking up loop that lies before next st, place on left hand needle and knit into back of loop.

BLANKET

Using 4mm needles and colour stated, cast on 78 sts. Knit 7 rows garter st (1st row is WS).

8th row - K4, * P2, K2, rep from * to last 6 sts, P2, K4.

9th row - K4, * K2, P2, rep from * to last 6 sts, K6.

10th row - K4, * K2, P2, rep from * to last 6 sts, K6.

11th row - K4, * P2, K2, rep from * to last 6 sts, P2, K4.

Rows 8 to 11 incl form patt. Cont in patt until work measures 33 cm from beg, working last row on RS. Knit 7 rows garter st. Cast off knitways.

COLLAR

Using 4mm needles and blanket colour, cast on 12 sts.

1st row (RS) - Inc knitways in each st to end ... 24 sts. Knit 2 rows garter st.

4th row - (K2, inc in next st) 8 times ... 32 sts. Knit 2 rows.

7th row - (K3, inc in next st) 8 times ... 40 sts. Knit 2 rows garter st. Cast off loosely knitways.

BEAR

HEAD

Using 3mm needles and brown, cast on 6 sts.

1st row (RS) - * K1, M1, rep from * to last st, K1 ... 11 sts.

2nd row - Purl.

3rd row - * K1, M1, rep from * to last st, K1 ... 21 sts.

4th row - Purl.

5th row - K1, * M1, K2, rep from * to end ... 31 sts. Work 3 rows stocking st, beg with a purl row.

9th row - K2, * M1, K3, rep from * to last 2 sts, M1, K2 ... 41 sts. Work 5 rows stocking st, beg with a purl row.

15th row - K5, * K2tog, K1, rep from * to last 3 sts, K3 ... 30 sts. Work 5 rows stocking st, beg with a purl row.

21st row - (K2tog, K1) 5 times, (K1, K2tog) 5 times ... 20 sts. Work 5 rows stocking st, beg with a purl row.

27th row - * K2tog, rep from * to end ... 10 sts.

28th row - Purl.

29th row - * K2tog, rep from * to end ... 5 sts.

Break off yarn, leaving a long end. Run end through rem sts, draw up tightly and fasten off securely.

EARS (make 2)

Using 3mm needles and brown, cast on 8 sts. Work 4 rows stocking st.

5th row K2tog, knit to last 2 sts, K2tog ... 6 sts.

6th row - Purl. Rep last 2 rows until 2 sts rem, ending with a purl row.

Next row Inc knitways in each of next 2 sts ... 4 sts.

Next row - Purl.

Next row - Inc in next st, knit to last st, inc in last st ... 6 sts.

Next row - Purl.

Rep last 2 rows once more ... 8 sts. Work 2 rows stocking st. Cast off. Fold ears in half and join side edges.

ARMS (make 2)

Using 3mm needles and brown, cast on 14 sts. Work 20 rows stocking st.

21st row - * K2tog, rep from * to end ... 7 sts. Break off yarn, leaving a long end. Run end through rem sts, draw up tightly and fasten off securely.

RABBIT

HEAD AND ARMS

Work as for Teddy, using white.

EARS (make 2)

Using 3mm needles and white, cast on 8 sts. Knit 7 rows garter st.

8th row - K1, inc in next st, K3, inc in next st, K2 ... 10 sts. Knit 19 rows garter st.

28th row - K3, (K2tog) twice, K3 ... 8 sts.

29th row - Knit.

30th row - K2, (K2tog) twice, K2 ... 6 sts.

31st row - Knit.

32nd row - K1, (K2tog) twice, K1 ... 4 sts.

33rd row - Knit.

34th row - K1, K2tog, K1 ... 3 sts.

Break off yarn, leaving a long end. Run end through rem sts, draw up tightly and fasten off securely. Fold base of ears (cast on edge) towards each other and slip st together for 1cm.

ELEPHANT

HEAD

Using 3mm needles and grey, cast on 6 sts.

1st row (RS) - * K1, M1, rep from * to last st, K1 ... 11 sts.

2nd row - Purl.

3rd row - * K1, M1, rep from * to last st, K1 ... 21 sts.

4th row - Purl.

5th row - K1, * M1, K2, rep from * to end ... 31 sts. Work 3 rows stocking st, beg with a purl row.

9th row - K2, * M1, K3, rep from * to last 2 sts, M1, K2 ... 41 sts. Work 5 rows stocking st, beg with a purl row.

15th row - K5, * K2tog, K1, rep from * to last 3 sts, K3 ... 30 sts. Work 5 rows stocking st, beg with a purl row.

21st row - (K2tog, K1) 5 times, (K1, K2tog) 5 times ... 20 sts. Work 5 rows stocking st, beg with a purl row.

27th row - K4, K2tog, K8, K2tog, K4 ... 18 sts.

24th row - Knit. Rep rows 21 to 24 incl once more ... 3 sts.

Next row - K3tog. Fasten off.

ARMS (make 2)

Using 3mm needles and grey, cast on 14 sts. Work 16 rows stocking st. Using cream, work 3 rows stocking st.

Next row Knit (ridge).

Next row - Knit.

Next row - (P2tog) 7 times ... 7 sts. Break off yarn, leaving a long end. Run end through rem sts, draw up tightly and fasten off securely.

MONKEY

HEAD

Using 3mm needles and brown, cast on 6 sts.

1st row (RS) - * K1, M1, rep from * to last st, K1 ... 11 sts.

2nd row - Purl.

3rd row - * K1, M1, rep from * to last st, K1 ... 21 sts.

4th row - Purl.

5th row - K1, * M1, K2, rep from * to end ... 31 sts. Work 3 rows stocking st, beg with a purl row.

9th row - K2, * M1, K3, rep from * to last 2 sts, M1, K2 ... 41 sts. Work 5 rows stocking st, beg with a purl row.

15th row - K5, * K2tog, K1, rep from * to last 3 sts, K3 ... 30 sts. Work 5 rows stocking st, beg with a purl row.

21st row - (K2tog, K1) 5 times, (K1, K2tog) 5 times ... 20 sts.

22nd row - Purl. Using cream, work 4 rows stocking st.

Next row - * K2tog, rep from * to end ... 10 sts.

Next row - Purl.

Next row - * K2tog, rep from * to end ... 5 sts. Break off yarn, leaving a long end. Run end through rem sts, draw up tightly and fasten off securely.

EARS (make 2)

Using 3mm needles and brown, cast on 4 sts.

1st row - Inc knitways in each st to end ... 8 sts.

2nd row - Knit.

3rd row - Inc knitways in each st to end ... 16 sts. Knit 3 rows garter st. Cast off.

ARMS (make 2)

Using 3mm needles and brown, cast on 14 sts. Work 16 rows stocking st. Using cream, work 4 rows stocking st.

Next row - * K2tog, rep from * to end ... 7 sts. Break off yarn, leaving a long end. Run end through rem sts, draw up tightly and fasten off securely.

FINISHING

DO NOT PRESS. Join head seam, filling head as you go (noting head seam will be at underside). Sew ears to each side of head as pictured.

Using black thread, embroider facial features as pictured or as desired, noting to use pink yarn for mouth and nose of rabbit. Join arm seams, filling as you go. Having arm seams facing down, sew arms to underside of head. Place toy in centre of blanket, having blanket diagonal, stitch securely in position.

Place collar around neck of toy and join back seam. Pin collar in position at front and back, over arms, then sew in position to blanket.
