WALK IN SPACE QUILT

Instructions:

CUTTING

Note - all strips are cut across the width of fabric (WOF) from selvage to selvage edge unless otherwise noted.

From the Spacewalk Planet Large Patch - Multi (A):

Fussy cut (1) 24 1/2" x 24 1/2" square.

From the Spacewalk Astronauts - Navy (B), cut:

(2) 3 1/2" x 24 1/2" WOF strips.

(2) 3 1/2" x 30 1/2" WOF strips.

From the Spacewalk Planet All over - Multi (C), cut:

(3) 3 1/2" x WOF strips. Sew the strips together end to end with diagonal seams and cut (2) 3 1/2" x 58 1/2" strips.

(3) 3 1/2" x WOF strips. Sew the strips together end to end with diagonal seams and cut (2) 3 1/2" x 52 1/2" strips.

(2) 3 1/2" x 36 1/2" WOF strips.

(2) 3 1/2" x 30 1/2" WOF strips.

(6) 2 1/2" x WOF strips for the binding.

From the Spacewalk Stripe - Multi (D):

Fussy cut (4) 8 1/2" x 36 1/2" strips as shown in the quilt image.

From the Spacewalk Planet Blocks - Multi (E):

Fussy cut (4) 8 1/2" squares each centered on a 3 x 3 group of blocks.

From the Spacewalk Astronauts - Navy (Backing), cut:

(2) 66" x WOF strips for the backing. Sew the strips together and trim to make the 66" x 66" back.

BLOCK ASSEMBLY

Step 1 - Sew (1) 3 1/2" x 24 1/2" Fabric B strip to each side of the 24 1/2" Fabric A square. Sew (1) 3 1/2" x 30 1/2" Fabric B strip to the top and to the bottom of the Fabric A square to make the Center Block (Fig. 1).

QUILT TOP ASSEMBLY

(Follow the Quilt Layout while assembling the quilt top.)

Step 2 - Sew (1) 3 1/2" x 30 1/2" Fabric C strip to each side of the Center Block. Sew (1) 3 1/2" x 36 1/2" Fabric C strip to the top and to the bottom of the Center Block.

Step 3 - Sew (1) 8 1/2" x 36 1/2" Fabric D strip to each side of the Center Block. Sew (1) 8 1/2" Fabric E square to each end of (1) 8 1/2" x 36 1/2" Fabric D strip. Repeat to make a second strip. Sew the strips to the top and to the bottom of the Center Block.

Step 4 - Sew (1) 3 1/2" x 52 1/2" Fabric C strip to each side of the Center Block. Sew (1) 3 1/2" x 58 1/2" Fabric C strip to the top and to the bottom of the Center Block to make the quilt top.

Step 5 - Layer and quilt as desired.

Step 6 - Sew the (6) 2 1/2" x WOF Fabric C strips together, end to end with 45-degree seams, to make the binding. Fold this long strip in half lengthwise with wrong sides together and press.

Step 7 - Bind as desired.
