WHAT YOU'LL NEED:

  • 30cm each of 9 Jocelyn Proust Christmas fabric range
  • 40cm black background Jocelyn Proust Christmas fabric for binding
  • 1.3m x 250cm wide backing fabric of choice
  • 1.3m cotton/bamboo batting
  • Matching Gutermann 100% cotton thread
  • Rotary cutter, mat & quilters rulers
  • Quilting pins, tape measure
  • Scissors, seam ripper
  • Hand needle
  • Sewing machine with 1/4" foot & walking foot

SIZE

Quilt measures: 42 1/2" x 56 1/2" (109cm x 143cm)

All fabrics should be 100% cotton, washed & pressed. 1/4" seam allowance used throughout unless otherwise indicated.

Read all instructions carefully before commencing the quilt.

INSTRUCTIONS

CUTTING

All strips are cut across the width of fabric unless otherwise stated.

  • From each of the 9 Jocelyn Proust Christmas fabrics cut 1 x 10" strip (9 strips in total) crosscut strips into 10" squares for a total of 36 x 10" squares, 4 squares in each fabric. Select 12 x 10" squares - 1 each of 9 fabrics plus one extra black, blue and natural background and set side.
  • Select another 12 x 10" squares. With squares right way up, crosscut 6 x 10" squares in half vertically to make 12 rectangles 5" x 10" crosscut remaining 6 x 10" squares in half horizontally to make 12 rectangles 10" x 5".
  • From remaining 10" squares cut 12 x 5" squares.
  • Cut binding fabric into 5 x 21/2" strips.

BLOCKS

1. For each of the 12 blocks you will need one 10" square, one 5" x 10" rectangle, one 10" x 5" rectangle and one 5" square.

2. Arrange the squares and rectangles into 6 x Block A and 6 x Block B as shown in diagram.

3. Block A - make 6. Sew 10" square to 5" x 10" rectangle and press seam towards square to make Unit 1. Sew 5" square to 10" x 5" rectangle and press seam towards square to make Unit 2. Sew Unit 1 and Unit 2 together matching seams and press.

4. Block B - make 6. Sew 5" square to 10" x 5" rectangle and press seam towards square to make Unit 3. Sew 5" x 10" rectangle to 10" square and press seam towards square to make Unit 4. Sew Unit 3 and Unit 4 together matching seams and press.

5. Alternate Blocks A and B in 4 Rows as shown in diagram.

6. Sew blocks together into rows pressing seams in one direction alternating the direction in each row. Sew the rows together matching seams. Press seams in one direction.

7. Layer the backing, batting and quilt top and baste together. Quilt as desired.

8. Join the 5 x 2 1/2" binding strips together on the bias to make one long strip. Press in half lengthwise and bind mitering corners. Attach a label or sign and date your quilt.
