WHAT YOU'LL NEED

  • Fabrics are from Enchanted Forest range
  • 1 Panel Fabric A - Enchanted Forest, cream
  • 1 Panel Fabric B - Animal Blocks, eggplant
  • 80cm Fabric C - Tree Geo, eggplant (includes binding)
  • 50cm Fabric D - Flowers, cream
  • 60cm Fabric E - Medallions, eggplant
  • 60cm Fabric F - Flowers, eggplant
  • 1.5m x 250cm wide Backing fabric of choice
  • 1.5m Sew Easy cotton/bamboo batting
  • Matching Gutermann 100% cotton thread
  • Rotary cutter, mat & quilters rulers
  • Quilting pins, tape measure
  • Scissors, seam ripper
  • Hand needle
  • Sewing machine with 1/4" foot & walking foot
  • Optional - Fiskars 8" x 8" rotating cutting mat & 6 1/2 square ruler

48 1/2" x 55" (123cm x 140cm)

Note: All fabrics should be 100% cotton, washed & pressed. 1/4" seam allowance used throughout unless otherwise indicated. Read all instructions carefully before commencing project.

INSTRUCTIONS

CUTTING

All strips are cut across the width of fabric unless otherwise stated.

  • Using 6 1/2"" square ruler and Fiskars rotating mat cut 9 x 6 1/2"" squares from Fabric B Animal Blocks panel.
  • From Fabric C cut 12 x 2 1/2"" strips - set aside 4 strips for panel borders and 6 strips for binding, crosscut remaining 2 strips into 2 1/2"" squares.
  • From Fabric D cut 1 x 3 1/2"" strip and 6 x 2 1/2"" strips - set aside 4 x 2 1/2"" strips for borders, crosscut remaining 2 strips into 2 1/2"" squares.
  • From Fabric E cut 3 x 5"" strips and 2 x 2 1/2"" strips crosscut into 2 1/2"" squares.
  • From Fabric F cut 8 x 2 1/2"" strips - set aside 6 x 2 1/2"" strips for borders, crosscut remaining 2 strips into 2 1/2"" squares.

PANEL SECTION

Step 1. Trim Fabric A panel 23 1/2"" wide x 26 1/2"".

Step 2. Sew a 2 1/2"" Fabric C strip to each side of the trimmed panel. Press seam towards strip and trim off excess fabric. Sew a 2 1/2"" Fabric C strip to the top and bottom edges of the panel. Press seam towards strip and trim off excess fabric.

Step 3. Sew the 3 1/2"" Fabric D strip to the right-hand side of the bordered panel. Press seam towards strip and trim off excess fabric. Sew one 2 1/2"" Fabric D strip to the top of the bordered panel. Press seam towards strip and trim off excess fabric and set aside.

ANIMAL BLOCKS

Step 4. Randomly select 3 x 2 1/2"" squares of Fabrics C, D, E and F and sew together, pressing seams in one direction to make a top unit. Sew this unit to the top of a 6 1/2"" Fabric B square, pressing seam towards Fabric B square. Repeat to make 8 more top units, sewing one to the top of remaining 8 x 6 1/2"" squares.

Step 5. Layout the 9 blocks from step 4 as desired or refer to quilt image, with 5 across the bottom and 4 down the side.

Step 6. Randomly select 4 x 2 1/2"" squares of Fabrics C, D, E and F and sew together, pressing seams in one direction to make a side unit. Sew this unit to the right-hand side of the blocks from step 4 matching seams. Repeat to make 8 more side units, sewing one to the right-hand side of remaining 8 blocks.

Step 7. Make 4 more side units as in step 6 and sew to the left-hand side of the 4 blocks that will be down the side of the quilt.

QUILT TOP

Step 8. Sew together the 4 blocks from down the side matching seams and press. Sew the 4-block set to the Fabric D strip on the left-hand side of the panel section. Press seam towards Fabric D strip.

Step 9. Sew together the 5 blocks from across the bottom matching seams and press. Sew the 5-block set to the bottom of the panel section matching seams. Press well.

Step 10. Sew one 2 1/2"" Fabric D strip to each side of the quilt top, press seam towards strip and trim off excess fabric.

Step 11. Sew the excess 2 1/2"" Fabric D strip from step 3 to the remaining 2 1/2"" Fabric D strip. Press seam open. Sew this strip to the bottom edge of the quilt, press seam towards strip and trim off excess fabric.

Step 12. Sew one 5"" Fabric E strip to the top and bottom of the quilt top, press seams towards strip and trim off excess fabric.

Step 13. For the outer border sew the remaining 6 x 2 1/2"" Fabric F strips into one long strip. Cut the strip into 2 x 54""
lengths and 2 x 52"" lengths. Sew a 54"" strip to each side of the quit top, press seam towards strip and trim off excess
fabric. Sew a 52"" strip to the top and bottom of the quilt top, press seam towards strip and trim off excess fabric.

Step 14. Layer the backing, batting and quilt top and baste together. Quilt as desired.

Step 15. Join the 6 x 2 1/2"" Fabric C binding strips together on the bias to make one long strip. Press in half lengthwise
and bind mitering corners. Attach a label or sign and date your quilt.
