Instructions

Marble effect

Step 1 - Choose one colour for the base and a few other coordination colours to create a marbled effect. Condition a few small balls of clay in a range of coordinating colours. To condition your piece of clay, roll the clay into a ball then knead it into a snake and fold. Keep repeating this until the clay can be folded without breaking - it should be flexible and smooth.

Step 2 - Flatten the base balls into 2mm thick slab with acrylic rolling pin and shape the balls of the other coordinating colours into snakes.

Step 3 - Arrange the snakes in the order you want, and lightly press them together. Then, use a roller to flatten the coils into a slab.

Step 4 - Use clay cutters to cut earring shapes out of the slab.

Step 5 - Make holes for your jump rings using toothpick or large needle.

Step 6 - Bake your clay to cure, follow manufacturer's instructions.

Step 7 - Finally, you can attach clay shapes to each other with metal jump rings. To open a jump ring, grasp it on both sides of the split with pliers. Twist it side to side, don't pull it apart. Then, insert your clay pieces, and twist the ring shut again.

Gold Foil

Step 1 - Condition your choice of colour clay into balls.

Step 2 - Add gold foils on the balls and flatten the base balls into 2mm thick slab with acrylic rolling pin. Add a bit more gold foil on the clay slab if desired - press lightly.

Step 3 - Use clay cutters to cut earring shapes out of the slab.

Step 4 - Make holes for your jump rings using toothpick or large needle.

Step 5 - Bake your clay to cure, follow manufacture's instruction.

Step 6 - Finally, you can attach clay shapes to each other with metal jump rings. To open a jump ring, grasp it on both sides of the split with pliers. Twist it side to side, don't pull it apart. Then, insert your clay pieces, and twist the ring shut again.

Step 7 - Add tassels to complete your earring.

Tips

Roll in between baking sheet or paper to prevent clay sticking.

Use UV resin on your finish/ cured clay pieces to give shiny finish.

Make sure to condition your clay enough to prevent bubbles.

To avoid bubbles, roll clay fold side first. This will avoid air to get trapped inside. If you do get a bubble, just slice into it with a craft knife and then press the air out, sealing the hole shut with your fingers gently.

Store your unused polymer clay in Ziploc sandwich bags. Polymer clay can react with and dissolve some plastics. But plain old Ziploc sandwich bags are polymer clay safe.
