FELT DONUTS

Felt Donuts Project

LEVEL: EASY

WHAT YOU'LL NEED:

  • Felt
  • Embroidery thread in coordinating colours, plus colours for sprinkles.
  • Poly fill
  • Embroidery needles
  • Pins
  • Scissors
  • Donut template

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Cut 2 round templates out of brown or cream felt (which ever colour you are using for your donut)
  2. Cut 1 coloured frosting piece
  3. Using embroidery thread sew small straight stitches about 5-10mm long onto the frosting piece. The back will look quite messy, but you will not see this in the finished donut. Repeat this step for each colour sprinkle you would like
  4. Pin the frosting piece, messy side down onto one of the brown donut pieces
  5. Using a blanket stitch, sew the frosting to the donut all the way around the edge. don't sew the middle circle just yet.
  6. Place the two donut pieces together. Use pins to hold the pieces together. Blanket stitch around the middle circle through all three layers.
  7. Blanket stitch around the outer edge of the donut, leaving a space about 3cm long to allow for stuffing
  8. Stuff the donut using small pieces of poly fill at a time, this gives the donut a smoother finish, and makes it easier to push the stuffing into the donut. You can use the blunt end of a pencil or knitting needle to help push the stuffing all the way around the donut
  9. Once stuffed to the fullness you like, use blanket stitch to close the gap.
  10. Tip - for a cream filled donut, simply do not cut out the middle circle from the template and only sew around the edges of the frosting and donut.
